Default The Master Cleanse (Formerly Beyonce's Maple Syrup Diet)

So many people have been commenting on this blog (click here to read it) that I thought we should actually have a forum to discuss it!

Have you tried the Maple Syrup Diet (aslo known as the Lemonade Diet and Master Cleanse? If so, how did it work for you?

I used to have a co-worker that did this every year to cleanse herself..she swore she didn't feel hungry, but she never did it to lose the weight...she siad she lost some but then it would just come back and more when the cleanse was done
It's amazing what people do to their body's

I was wondering about this. My bf's mom said she was doing this, but the first night I saw her eating a burrito! I'm breastfeeding so it's not wise for me to try it, but I probably wouldn't anyway.

OK, I've been consuming too many carbs and coffee lately so I've decided it is time for the cleanse! I'm starting this tomorrow. Look for weights and progress beginning tomorrow!

Red face Day 1 Progress

OK, I should preface this by saying this isn't actually a diet. At least not a healthy one. It was originally created as the Master Cleanse to cleanse one's body of toxins but has been used as a diet by many over the years.

Although I still have 20 pounds I'd like to lose before I have another baby (God willing) I needed the cleansing benefits of this. I'm a carboholic and a caffeine addict. I've kicked both in the past but these are things you never quite get rid of (much like alcoholism). So, after a stressful month, I had a relapse on croissants and coffee. Now I'm cleaning up.

I started the day with a carbohydrate hangover and weighed in at 180.
First thing in the morning, I had 32 oz of salt water (with Sea Salt) and one cup of "Smooth Move" tea (made by Traditional Medicinals and available at King Soopers/Kroger and other grocery stores). I also had one pot of green tea made with a single tea bag. This does have some caffeine but easing off on caffeine is much easier than going cold turkey and dealing with the headaches.

As you'll see, I'm not following the Master Cleanse to the letter.

Over the course of the day, I had 5 liters of water with soluble fiber and lemon juice (from concentrate) added. I can't tolerate all the sugar in the maple syrup and the cayenne burns my stomach (I've had a gastric bypass and don't have the benefit of all the stomach acids others do.) When the hunger became too much, I had a high protein bar (30g protein and 30g carbohydrate). I don't like the idea of losing muscle while fasting so this was my own personal choice.

I also continued to take my vitamins and a fiber supplement. At the end of the day, I had a little more green tea and another cup of the laxative tea.

This morning I weighed in at 179 and did not have a carbohydrate hangover. Things are looking up already!

Hey, burritos have beans in them, and beans have fiber, and fiber loosens the bowels, so maybe the burrito wasn't such a bad thing!

(I can find ways to justify a great many things.)
