FDA Plans To Reduce Contaminants In Baby Food

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced Closer to Zero. It is the FDA’s goal to reduce dietary exposure to contaminants to as low as possible, while maintaining access to nutritious foods. The agency’s work to date has resulted in significant progress in reducing exposure to environmental contaminants from foods and Closer to Zero builds on this progress. There is a New Gerber Baby

Parents have likely seen the adorable face of the Gerber Baby many times! Few know the history behind that drawing. Gerber stated that in 1928, the company held a contest to find a face to represent a baby food advertising campaign.  Artist Dorothy Hope Smith entered her simple charcoal sketch of a “tousle-haired, bright-eyed cherub of a baby with endearing pursed lips.” In her entry, Smith noted that she would finish the sketch if she won. FDA Issues Recall on Baby Formula

Are you feeding your baby with formula? If so, then you need to be aware that there is a recall on three brands of baby formula made by Abbott Nutrition. U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Babies and Toddlers

The U.S Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has issued new dietary guidelines for Americans, specific to a person’s age. Part of the report advises parents what to feed their babies and toddlers. The Committee found that breastfeeding may reduce the risk of overweight or obesity, type 1 diabetes, and asthma, as compared to never being breastfed. The study found evidence that suggests that a longer duration of breastfeeding is associated with a lower risk of type 1 diabetes and asthma, but it was unclear what the optimal duration of breastfeeding is.
