They have RSV!
Okay - Reagan went to the doctor on Valentine's day because she was pretty sick for 2-3 days beforehand. I thought it was maybe just a cold but I wanted to get her some medicine because she was not sleeping at all. They did an RSV test then and it came up negative. They put her on antibiotics because she sounded really congested and was wheezing so they thought it could be another virus. The antibiotics worked for a few days but then the symptoms started coming back and Logan started getting sick too. Tuesday night they were awful! They couldn't sleep and they were burning up with fever. I called the doctor and got them an appointment for this morning (I couldn't take them yesterday because I actually baby-sat my nephews). They both got breathing treatments with albuterol and pulmocort and it seemed to help. The RSV test they ran on them today came back positive! So - we are giving them tylenol for fever and breathing treatments every 6 hours or so (we can do it as close together as 4 if they are wheezing badly). But I'm just afraid that their symptoms will get worse. The doctor said that this could be as bad as they get, but they could also get worse before they get better. I'm just on pins and needles watching their every move hoping that they don't get worse while dh is playing volleyball and basketball tonight.
Thought I'd let you know what's up - so far they are acting fine...

Oh wow Kim, thats rough! Did they get synagis vaccine? In our NICU we would have given it to them before they were discharged, then they would have to follow up once a month throughout RSV season, but I am sure different areas of the country have different protocols (Louisiana, and the south in general have longer RSV seasons--go figure). Watch them close, but they should be just fine.

They got a synagis vaccine while they were in the NICU but this time around they didn't. Someone from an visiting nurses place called to say they wanted to schedule us for one but said she'd call back after she talked to the doctor's office and never did. I guess the doctor's office didn't feel we needed one or something. Who knows. They seem fine, they're playing around and acting pretty normal just a little fussier than usual and not as interested in eating. I'm trying to get them to at least drink milk every once in a while because solids are just not an option (they won't even open their mouths). I'll keep you updated.

I'm surprised they only let you give them the breathing treatment every 4-6 hours... Emma's been to the point where she was having every 1-2 hours!

Well - last night went well. The breathing treatments helped a lot. They slept from 11p - 3a and Logan had some milk and Reagan of course did not. We went ahead and gave them another breathing treatment since they were half-awake and they went right back to sleep from 4a - 730a. Reagan still hasn't had a lot to drink, she's drank 3 oz so far since she's been up. I've tried milk, juice, water, even ginger ale. My brother stopped and got me some pedialyte and I'm going to try to see if she'll take that. My next step is chocolate milk (I guess it's better than nothing).
