Alleged Mother-Daughter Prostitution Team Arrested

NBC -- Philadelphia police have arrested a mother-daughter pair accused of working together as prostitutes.

Philadelphia Citywide Vice Unit officers said the two advertised and provided sex for clients they met on the Craigslist Web site.

Both mother Traci Young, 38, and daughter Tami Smith, 22, were escorted by police from their home on Thursday as a crowd of neighbors applauded.

Young's boyfriend is also facing charges.

"It's a messed up world out there," Young said as she was led away in handcuffs. "We have to do this to get by."

Police Lt. Charles Green said the unit was able to get an undercover officer to pose as a customer.

Police also said both women agreed to perform sex for $200.

"We answered the ad, made the appointment and we were successful in making the arrest," Green said.

Neighbors applauded when the women were brought out.

They said they have been complaining to police for nearly a year, shortly after the two women rented the property.

Police said the women allegedly had sex with their customers on a mattress in the basement of the home.

Smith's three children, ages 3 to 7, were discovered nearby with a baby-sitter.

They were taken into custody by the city's Department of Human Services.

Well the mother got one thing right - it is a messed up world out there. I'm glad at least the daughter was smart enough to not have her children there. I hope those children go to live with good people and do not get returned to the mother or grandmother.

Sometimes you have to do anything you can to support your children, I know quite a few women who had to do this to earn money to pay for a childs medical treatment due to not having full UK citizenship. My brother-in-laws had to do that to prevent her child being taken to New Zealand by the father as he wanted either his son, or £40,000. Don't be so judgemental.

im sorry but i would never prositute as a means to make something happen. My sister was an exotic dancer at a place that requires they leave their breats and other privates covered and I was appauled even though she needed to make the amount she made there. I dont think that it is right to sell yourself no matter what. Most people say its addicting because its EASY money. And Im sorry if my Sons dad said it is 40,000 or my kid I would say blackmail and check into a womens shelter.

In Philadelphia, women do not have to resort to prostitution to support their children. Period. In the United States, there is always help to be found for those who need it, regardless of what city or state.

It's true, you don't have to resort to prostitution. Although, you will probably make more money if you do - in addition to the food stamps, housing vouchers, medicaid etc you might qualify for from social services.

But you don't have to resort to it to get by. And you certainly don't need to do the mother daughter tag team thing. That is an excuse for just being sick and degenerate.
