Default Thumb Sucking

Gabby has taken to sucking her thumb (actually she was attempting to suck her foot in 1 u/s and keep sucking her fingers when she found them when she was born; just now she knows how to get the thumb to her mouth) she mainly does this going to sleep and when she is hungry (it's more the fist when she is hungry), it's became her aid to go to sleep, she has always refused a dummy and i have tried several different types; everyone keeps telling me i should put a stop to it now... so how do i get a 3 months old (12 weeks) to stop sucking her thumb? should i be stopping her? i do keep offering the dummies as they will be easy to "lose" later when i want her to stop it entirely
