Default To Hyphenate or Not To Hyphenate

I don't think I'm going to get my own way in the Jane situation, as it has been nearly a week and The Boyfriend is still insisting that the baby will be Sarah Jane Eleanor, called Sarah Jane (we'd put Sarah Jane as the first name, then Eleanor as the second name). However, in this situation, do you think there should be a hyphen to let people know that her first name isn't just Sarah?

Well, when it comes to last names, I'm anti-hyphen about 99% of the time, mostly for logic reasons and because usually they're just too long!
That being said, it could go either way with a first name. On the one hand, yes, it would make people aware that her name is Sarah-Jane. But on the other hand, if you call her Sarah Jane, and ask everyone else to call her by her full first name, it might not be necessary. If she's called Sarah Jane by everyone she knows, chances are by the time she's in school or daycare, that's what she'll ask her teachers and school friends to call her. And keep in mind that as she grows older, she may decide to go only by Sarah as a nickname and to shorten it up a bit.
Basically, I don't hate it hyphenated, I just think it may be unnecessary in the long run.

I don't believe you should hyphenate her name. She may want to go by just one or the other later on. Or you may end up calling her just Sarah or just Jane. I have a cousin whose name is Tracy Jo Anne. The Tracy Jo is her first legal name but we've always called her Tracy, which she plans to legally change to Treyci for the spelling.

I agree with Arlene- honestly, even with my friends who have hyphenated first names (Anne-Marie, etc), 99% of the time we just call them by the first of the two names anyway (and they prefer it that way).

That, and I think hyphenated first names just don't look as sophisticated
