Default toddler pool cleanliness

Somebody once mentioned to me that you could safely add a small amount of Clorox bleach to the water in a toddler pool to keep it clean. Is this true? If so, how much to add and how often? Do the kids then need to stay out of the pool for a period of time? Our pool is too big to empty at each use (approx 8 ft. long, 4 ft. wide, and 2 ft deep.) We do empty it after several uses, but it does seem to get gross pretty fast.
Thanks!
