Default Too late to start over?

Hi everyone! I'm new here so my name is Christie and I am the mother of a 10 y/o son. To say the very least, my husband and I have made some huge mistakes throughout our adult lives, in almost every aspect including parenting. With both of us coming from unstable homes, it's often difficult to always know which is the best decision. At this point I am desperately seeing change. I'm worried these changes will bring about a rebellion long before a revolution. You might imagine how a lazy yet ruthless 10 y/o old might react to my new found need to be a good parent or person in general. I was wondering if anyone had an ideas about how I can peacefully induct new, wholesome things and ideas into my household.
Thanks!

As long as you uphold punishments, keep them consistent and put up with the rebellion you can do it. The worst thing you can ever do is to say "If you do that again I'' <insert punishment here>" and then when he repeats the bad behavior to just threat again instead of punish, it will reinforce that he can do what he wants.

Negative unacceptable behavior by 3 children that continues beyond improvement rewards, time outs to calm and rethink, withholding privileges and moderate physical discipline requires immediate and absolute action on your part. Stop all negotiations now, and inform them (don't "explain" just tell) that they know the rules already.
