Default Tropical Storm Fay UPDATED w/pics

Well, the storm wasn't all it was cracked up to be.....thank goodness!!!
Although we did get some pretty strong winds. 60 mph sustained winds with higher gusts. It is amazing the difference between a 60mph gust and a 60 mph sustained!!!! The trees were leaning so far over!!!!!!!!!!
The really scarey thing is that when hurricane Wilma hit (which we evacuated for) there were 130 mile an hour sustained winds!!!!!!
So glad I missed that!!!!
Anyway, all is well, we never lost power. It did flicker off and on for a little over 2 hours, but never stayed off. A lot of people I know lost power for 12 hours. In this heat that is lousy!!!!!
We got tons and tons of rain. The weather channel reported that we got 3 to 4 inches of rain.....but we get that mcuh normally and judging from how badly my yard is flooded and the streets I know we go a lot more.
My neighbor recorded 10 inches, but the rain gauge was full so it may be more like 12 inches. My yard looks like a lake!!! And when the wind blows there are even ripples, or tiny waves!! How funny.
We have a circular driveway and half is under water. I have some pics I took yesterday, but we got a ton more rain last night so the water situation is a lot worse than it is in these pics.
We are soo sooo lucky though, the storm was a direct hit for where we live and if it had strangthened a lot, we would have been in trouble!

It's good you all are ok. We expect serious rain here in the panhandle by the weekend. Unless it takes a dip south and reorganizes in the gulf, it doesnt look serious for wind or surge. Our surf flags are yellow at the moment. I am in the Pcola area.

Not much of a storm, but a good drill for what may be ahead.

And yes, what plans have you made for evacuation with animals? Mine is a pet friendly hotel somewhere in Alabama.

Well, hopefully we won't ever have to go right?? If these stinky old storms would stay away we would all be happy!!!
We stayed home for this storm, the pups were freaked out, they aren't a fan of thunderstorms, and even big wind seems to spook them anymore.
As for future storms Bo will be going home this week, so if we had to squeeze our 2 pups in the back with Tiffany it could be done...it would be a tight squeeze, but it could be done. (Bo weighs 110 lbs. !!! while our 2 are 50 and 40)
But, we are going to be getting a minivan soon, hopefully within the month of September. So then it won't be any problem.
If we leave we go see my sister in Atlanta....or my other sister in Loisville KY. One time we were so crazy to see family in Ohio that we drove all the way to Ohio for a 3 day weekend!!!!! Talk about nuts!!!!

As far as Fay goes I hope she dissapates....it would be no fun for her to go back into the gulf and reorganize and hit Florida again!!!!! Who invited her in the first place!!!!!!

Ya know, while we are all talking about preparations, evacuation, etc, there are just some people who hear a storm warning and think:

"SURF'S UP"

I hope this man is ok. Growing up in Miami, there were always surfers, even for Cat 5 storms. Insane. Just look what happens when it isn't even a full fledged hurricane.

poor guy.

but your post reminded me of the last time a hurricane hit Delaware. (we used to get them a lot, but since 03 we haven't gotten anything that i can recall). Since the state & schools were shut down the day of and day after the storm, we stayed at the beach FOR the storm, then hit the beach the next day. most of the schools were there, best day at the beach ever. it was kind of chilly, but overall a good surf day.
