I didn't hear them say anything for Miami Dade or Broward county as the storm is expected to hit on the west coast......Collier and Lee county.
Collier is bracing for a Cat 2. Hopefully they are wrong. But better safe then sorry.
We are in Collier. We are already getting outer bands coming through, it is a gloomy looking day. They grocery stores are packed with people buying their last minute supplies.
We have to decide whether we are going to ride it out here at our house with no hurricane shutters, or at my moms with hurricane shutters and on a lake!!!!
The other thing is, we are not directly on the water, but we are less than 9 miles from the beach......and Collier county is expecting up to an 8 foot storm surge.......I think we will be fine, but all the canals are conected and we are not far from 2 of them.......and water travels farther on flat land than on hilly land.
I am not too worried, more annoyed than anything else.
They are doing vlountary evacuations, but they are expecting to change that within a few hours to manditory for anyone within 1 1/2 miles of the coast. (so not us)
I am not one of those people that is going to stay cuz my stuff is here, I don't care about anything but dh, T, and dogs..... but, if we are here in the house, I prefer to hope it will stay in one piece!
This house lasted through, Charley, Jean, Frances, Rita, some gusts from Katrina as it went up the gulf, Wilma--direct hit, and hopefully through Fay as well.
