Post Trying my hand at writing

I am a working mom, right now I am at home, while I am having this time off, I have started writing, I have always written in journals, Is this something that is hard to get into? When I do get better at it, I would like to freelance. Is it hard to get into that?
I am very new to this, most of the things that I write are just for myself, I think I am worried about being boring. I have mostly written about my life and things. Is it a good idea to write about your life? I started with that, because it's what I know and when you have kids, you have plenty of things to write about.
I'll take any advice.
Thanks

godschild,

Oh my, where to start. The freelance writing world is very rewarding, but also competitive and can be confusing at first about how to submit, whether you need an agent etc....the best thing to do is to find a good, current resource book, such as the Writer's Market. Your library should have a current edition. Figure out what genre you would like to write for and then study the new books out this season from different publishers in that category. Or if you're thinking magazine articles, or blogging, check out those markets by reading them with an eye for their market, writing style etc...If you want to write for children, joining SCBWI (Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) is a terrific first step. If you want to write about your life, you have to find a market that is interested in whatever story you are telling. Generally, it is difficult to find a market for personal essays and memoirs, because so many people, and especially beginners, want to write these, but it can be done.
Study your market, learn the craft and be able to take criticism, then rewrite, rewrite and rewrite some more.
Good luck and best wishes!
