Default Tubal Ligation

Dr. asked me in May if I decided to have my tubes tied during the c-section. I told him I would let him know towards the end of my pregnancy. DH and I decided it was best to not have anymore children. I am trying to find out if there are possible side effects from a TL. Some testimonies say its great and others warn not to do it. What do you think??

Perhaps your other option is to have DH get snipped. Cheaper, less painful for the man, cheaper and less painful and less complicated to reverse if you decide to ever have a reveral...

I don't know much about either option, though!

DH is considering getting snipped regardless. When is the question....He is going to look into it further once the new insurance starts. I said I would since I am having a c-section. Dr says it only takes a few minutes longer. I didnt know it had side effects.

Our "deal" is that if I'd have to have a c-section with #2 it's me getting the TL--if I have a vaginal delivery--it's him.

I talked to my OB about this and he said since I had a vaginal delivery with #1 any c-section with #2 would most likely be an emergency situation and most insurance companies require 30 days written notice, which I obviously wouldn't be able to give in an emergency c-section situation. That's something you might want to check into on the insurance side of things.

That being said, we've decided that after this baby is born DH will probably go in for a vasectomy, but since he's more adamant than I am about this being our last child, it's up to him to follow up on it

I have had 2 friends who had TL's following their c-sections, as well as a couple others who have had it done at a different time. They've all been happy with the results and haven't had side effects. (I also know one friend who chose not to have it done during her last c-section because her DH was going to get a vasectomy and 2 years later he still hasn't gotten around to it, so she's kicking herself for not taking matters into her own hands when she had the opportunity)

I agree with your 30 day notice with some insurance companies. When I was pg with #3, ins. company required paperwork. With the inusrance I have now dr says all need is to tell him yes or no. I told him I wanted it done, that DH and I are closing our factory for good. I'm having second thoughts because from some places I read, a TL is basically early menopause and has bad side effects. Im 26, I dont want to go through that right now.

my reasoning for not getting a tubal is that the statitics I have seen say 4 out o10 ladies who have a tubal end up with a hysterectomy with in 10 years, and that iss erious surgery!! If you can get him to do I'd go that way. good uck with wahtever you decide!

Hysterectomy? Why?
Does DH have to see a specialist, or his regular dr? I usually set up his appointments...If I leave it up to him he would never go. He leaves messages and expects them to call back. Its his turn to get poked and prodded. Men have no idea what we go through.

Sometimes the hysterectomy is needed due to post tubal ligation syndrome. This is a rare, but painful side effect of the surgery. I wrote a blog about it in the pregnancy blog a while ago. Here's the link:
