Two Days without Poop
A couple of days ago, Devon went almost two days without pooping at all. He had wet diapers, but not nearly as wet as usual. We went 6-7 hours with the same diaper on, and it was hardly wet at all! It was like that for two days! If it would have lasted any longer we would have taken him in!
He finally started pooping again yesterday, and all has been well yesterday and today. (As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure he's making up for the poopless two days!!!) What do you think was going on inside him when he went two days with no bowel movements, and hardly any pee? He was totally eating just fine. I know that wasn't it. Has anyone else had the same problem? What if it happens again?

Devon's a little young, but when DS was a newborn his Dr. told us not to be concerned if he went a week without a BM around 4 months old because breastmilk is so pure that there isn't a lot of "leftover" waste. Sure enough, from about 4 months-6 months (when we started introducing food) he only pooped about once a week or so.
I don't know about what's ok or normal at this age, though. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'd take him in if you're concerned--esp. with how little he is/was peeing.

Emma (although she has constipation problems) has gone 5 days without pooping before. Two days, although scary, isn't horrible, so don't be totally freaked out (I know, it's hard!). Has he been eating less?

At about a month old Katelyn had a thing going for a few weeks where she wasn't pooping...she'd go every 4 days. She was bf'd also. Her doc never found anything wrong with her...She did stop it after a couple of weeks of doing it.

remember it's totally normal for a exclusively BF baby to go days with pooing, however i am a little concern about the peeing as Gabby only now (well since about 12 mths) goes 6 hours between nappies but that a case of it will be dry for hours then all of a sudden it drenched

Totally normal for an exclusively breastfead baby to not poop for a few days!!! T would not go for a few days and then look out!!!!! As long as there are enough wet diapers in a 24 hour period (I forget how many there should be.......) he is fine. Don't worry about a bf baby being constipated unless he seems to be uncomfortable.
T didn't go very often at all.....now with solids she goes 3 or 4 times a day!! So, enjoy your poop free days....they won't last!!

Thanks everyone! This is all really helpful! It's good to know it's normal. He has pooped a couple of times since then. I guess I didn't realize that BF babies don't poop that often! Alex was BF, but not exclusively. We did about half and half, so I don't think she really went through this no-poop stage.
The other thing is, is that every couple of days Devon gets a bottle of formula, when I'm in class or at work and the pumped stuff runs out. I guess that since it's not really that often it doesn't have that big of an effect on his poop.
Anyway, thanks again! I really appreciate the insight!

It could be the formula too though...if its the one with extra iron that one got Kate alllll constipated....If he doesn't seem bothered by it though I don't think I would worry. 2 days isn't that long.

Yeah, two days is like the blink of an eye when I see how long all these other babes have gone! hehe! It could be the formula... we don't actually have him on a specific kind of formula. We just got free samples from the hospital and when I took a breastfeeding class in August. We are using those still. One brand is Enfamil and the other is Similac. The samples are almost gone, and then I'm sure we'll probably just get Nestle formula, which is what we used with Alex. Maybe that will help regulate him a bit! (Well, probably not since he doesn't drink formula much anyway!)
But you're right Kara-- the Similac formula does have extra iron in it! Maybe that was the deal!
