Default Update on my son's teeth

A long while ago, I wrote about my sons teeth. They looked like they coming in black. We took him to a pediatric dentist/doctor who said to wait but they looked fine. Well...they arent fine. He sucks his thumb so it sort of looks like bottle rot. His teeth are white and intact, he just a grove near his gumline which is brown. He goes to another dentist next month. Im wondering if anyone has seen this before, now that I can explain it better. Id post a pic, but he doesnt cooperate. I have read they may pull his front teeth if it affects the root...I read it when I posted the first time....now its a blur.

Could this be it?

I've dealt with early decay. Practically an expert, sadly. But it wasn't isolated to the gumline. So the above, the plaque, sounds like it might be what you are dealing with.

Look around for a good pediatric dentist. A good one you are comfortable with. We had to really look, but were lucky to find a great one on our second visit.

I think I know what you mean!! My DD has the whole black thing going on, too... I had posted about it, too, but no one seemed to know what I was talking about. I had called a local dentist in our area and he said not to bring her in until she is about 3. (She was about 1 1/2 at the time, and now she's 1 yr 9 mo. so still a ways away from 3!!)

I'm glad someone else has the same problem. I figured it was from too much sugar. She drank a lot of juice, but we cut her down to one small glass a day. Does your son consume a lot of sugar?? (Alex doesn't suck her thumb, really, so I don't think our problem is from that.)

You need to bring her to the dentist before 3. You need to find a dentist now. Not to in any way alarm anyone, but to anyone out there, you need to take your child to a dentist around 1, if not earlier. There are great pediatric dentists out there, you just gotta look for them. They are a little harder to find.

We waited til 18 months and it was, without a doubt, one of the *biggest* mistakes I have made. We breastfed, *no* juice other than the teensiest bit diluted with water, and brushed her teeth. But she had serious decay by the time I brought her to the dentist. And then it took even longer to get treatment because the first dentist wasn't to our liking so we had to find another.

Find a good pediatric dentist now. It is one of the best pieces of advice I can offer anyone.

Yes, for this you definitely need to see a pediatric dentist. Not all dentists will have this specialty.
