US Senator Larry Craig
What the deal? I'm not sure I completely understand what's going on with this news story. I put it here because it I know it's a sensitive subject. As I understand it, he basically grabbed a guy's leg in the bathroom. Is that really a crime?

Well, there is this whole world of bathroom sex, apparently. And there are certain signals and gestures and eye contact "signals" about it. And apparently, the dear Senator either 1) performed those signals in such a way to alert the undercover cop that he was interested in a little sex or 2) just had a wide squat stance, dropped his paper, and was so surprised that all of that equaled something to be alarmed about that he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Hmmm.
His political future is looking rather bleak. Personally I could care less if he wanted a little consensual bathroom nookie at an airport. But his backpedalling right now is the dream of every late night comedian and he's ruining his name.

Unfortunately, the louder he denies it, the more guilty he appears to be. And believe me, here in NJ, we know all about bathroom nooky - why even our former governor engaged in some at an infamous rest stop on the Garden State Parkway.
The problem with it is that these are public places, and anyone can walk in on this, including kids. After a while, a public restroom gets the reputation of not being safe for the general public.
It will be interesting to see what testimony and evidence is offered.

I could see if he was caught having sex in the bathroom but, is it a crime to make a pass? How do we know he didn't want to find someone and hook up elsewhere. Afterall, who wants to have sex in a bathroom? (I'm not even necessarily on his side, I just don't really think it should be such a big deal. Unless of course something else happened that I'm not aware of.)

Whether he is having actual sex or making a pass - or responding to a pass - it is inappropriate conduct in a public restroom.
Come to New Jersey. You would be amazed at the men who want to have sex with each other in bathrooms. To them, the public anonymity and risk of discovery is part of the "fun".

Newspaper today documents his resignation.
Apparently I have not been in enough male public bathrooms ....... and I don't intend to.
