Val, (or anyone!) I need help!
Went to the ER last night, and just as I thought, I have a uterine infection. Anyway, here's my deal-- The doctor said that the antibiotic I will be taking isn't good for breastfeeding. I got Doxycycline, a form of Tricycline. He said that it was the best med for me, but can cause baby to have brown, mushy teeth, so I should stop breastfeeding for the next 14 days, which is how long I have to take the med.
I'm just so frustrated! BF was going so well already, and baby and I are both loving it! Early this morning, we gave formula a shot for the first time, and he threw it up right away! Alex had the same projectile vomiting deal when she was on formula, too. This morning I gave in and gave Devon the breast, and he was great! Happy, no throw up. Obviously I can't continue giving him the breast, ( I started taking the pills this morning) so we're going all formula for the next 14 days. I am going to try to pump and dump, but I'm not sure I can do that for 14 days!!!
I don't know what to do! Should I give pumping a try?? I mean, I already don't get enough sleep as it is, obviously. And now pumping every few hours in order to keep my supply coming.. It just seems so overwhelming! I try to think of it as doing the best thing for my baby. But I just don't know!
I have to follow up with my regular doctor tomorrow, so I think I will ask if he can switch me to a different, breastfeeding friendly, antibiotic. But I'm not so sure there are any other options, otherwise the doc last night would have prescribed that one, right?
I just need advice... Devon is only 6 days old. If I start pumping now, won't it be bad for my milk supply, anyway? Am I best just to switch to formula? I really, REALLY wanna keep breastfeeding. I'm thinking about demanding a different antibiotic, even if it's not the best one for me.
