Ok so I am having some issues with my ob/gyn's billing office (the one that delivered Nevy). I am so mad at these ladies in billing that I asked for a copy of my medical records b/c I plan to change offices!
Well I got the copy of them today and OMG Nevaeh really is a miracle! No joke my DD should have died before I was even 16 weeks pregnant!
I remember (being half out of it

) in the recovery room my Dr. saying something about Nevy's cord/placenta being off center and thats why she had low fluid levels. I never really got into it with her b/c I was so drugged and tired.
Well according to my delivery report Nevy had velamentous cord insertion. This is when the cord forms in the clear sac part of the placenta and not the thick tissue part. Her cord veins then run along the inside of the placenta to the thick tissue part and into my uterus. Had Nevy kicked her cord or pulled to hard it would have ruptured

!
The things that has me mad is that they say 100% of ALL cases are caught on u/s by the 2nd tri! I have all 21 u/s reports (yes 21 u/s) and every single on says "Cord insertion:normal"!!!
Velamentous insertion has been diagnosed by ultrasonography with a sensitivity of 67% and specificity of 100% in the second trimester
My DD could have died.....no....should have died

b/c the Dr. had no idea her cord was like that! All those u/s and no one caught that! I am in shock!
Velamentous insertion can cause hemorrhage if the vessels are torn when the membranes are ruptured, most often with a vasa previa (see below). Velamentous insertion of the cord is associated with low birth weight, prematurity, and abnormal fetal heart patterns in labor.
I could have had a previa (where the placenta grows into the uterus) and died b/c they didn't know! I really liked my Dr. but now I am so glad I am leaving her office and changing hospitals! I look at this little girl and realize the odds were against her yet here sh is. It really make me appreciate her even more. This also makes me wonder what the odds are of this happening again? It's makes me wonder if doing FET with the same embryos is such a good idea.
