Default Vent about Pedi

Ok so I am not the perfect patient. I won't let the girls follow the AAP's vaccination schedule. I personally think that it is only in place because of all the money that the pharmacutical companies have thrown into it. I use a delayed schedule that just starts at 6 months instead of at birth and splits them all up. It also skips a few vaccines altogether...or untill age 5 or 6. So it is my way of doing what I can to keep them healthy. (Along with organic only food....and trying to limit chemical exposure and switching to cloth diapers) But, I know the pedi hated me for the vaccine issues....but I told him he may feel comfortable but I don't and they are my girls. He can't gaurantee me nothing will go wrong. And I told him he is not the one who will live with regrets and he is not the one that would have to wonder what if.......he didn't like that too much.
Anyway I am not his favorite mother. Well I took both dd's to see him for well care check ups. He walks in and asks if either is sick. I said no, he asked again...... any fevers, irritability throwing up, diarreah. I said no, that Tiffany is teething just got 2 of her two year molars and the other 2 are coming in. So she had been grumpy and had a LOW fever. 99.8 Not a big deal at all. And that Jessie had thrown up a few days earlier, but she is an infant and she may have just eaten too much. (as you can tell from her weight in the other post) He tells me that they are both sick!!!! That they both have a virus!!!!!!!!!!!! He is nuts! They are not sick! Not even close! He proceeds to tell me that they both have a bit of a rash!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am wondering at this point if we are looking at the same two kiddos!!!!
He then tells me that he cannot do the rest of the check up that I will have to bring them back in 2 weeks.
He must be smoking crack if he thinks that I am ever going back!!!!!!!!!! I spent $30 on that stupid visit. on the last day that my insurance was good for to get that well care check up done and he wasted it to tell me that they have an imaginary virus!!!!!!!!!!!! What an a$$.
I am so so so so so so angry!!!!!!!! I think that he was running behind and used me to catch up. What makes him think that I would want to drive 30 minutes back to his office to expose my girls to sick kids so he can do the check up I paid for and already brought them to so that I can now pay out of pocket for the whole darn thing! I am soo sooo irritated who does he think he is>???? Does he really think I am that stupid that he can tell me 2 perfectly healthy kids are sick and that I am going to just so OK????????????
Arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Sorry this is so long, I just can' t beleive he is sucha creep. I now have to shop for a new pedi. Wish me luck.
I left his office in tears....so upset over my wasted $30 and time.

You chose not to vaccinate on schedule. I don't either and I've written and posted about that. What you should've done is chosen a pedi who was on board with that. When a parent chooses not to vaccinate, it is perfectly reasonable for a doctor to choose not to see patients. Many offices actually have policies about it so that kids don't pick up the measles and then give them to the rest of the waiting room. I'm going to take a wild guess and suggest that while the office might not be opposed to the vaccination thing--he is (which you said) and feels like it's his duty to be overly cautious--which it sounds like he was. He has the right and responsibility to the other patients to do that and while it's annoying to you, it's something that as a delayed vax mom, you should've known and/or understood.

I'm glad you're not going back. There are plenty of vax friendly/baby friendly pedis out there that won't give you a hard time about your vax choices. I think the Ask Dr. Sears website lists them by state and somewhere else there is a listing by state. I would write a letter to the office and see if they will reimburse the $30. It's not so much about the $30 but rather the principle of the whole thing--especially if the girls continue to be healthy and don't develop anything over the next couple of days. Good luck in finding a new pedi.

ETA: You said you were not a perfect patient but really, that's not it at all. I'm sure you are lovely. Advocating for your children should never get you labeled as difficult.

Yeah, I have to agree with Val. Find a pedi that supports your decision about vaccinating. Our pedi, though he believes in vaccinating, supports my decidion to hold off on some and forgo on others. It sounds to me like this DR will be the type to always be suspicious that your girls are sick, no matter what. It's too bad about the $30, but I doubt they'll re-imburse you, since the DR made a "sick" diagnosis. GL in your search!
If you have a local MOMS club, you may be able to get referrals through them.

Ya know what? LLL or your local homeschooling group are likely full of people that think similarly. In fact, I'm an outcast in one hs group I belong to because I do vaccinate! Even though you're not doing either (or maybe you are and I just don't remember), I've never met a mom there that wouldn't happily dispense referrals for pedis that are more vax friendly.

I'd find a new doctor immediately. Since you are using a delayed schedule and not skipping all vaxes, it shouldn't be hard to find a doctor who will support your choices.

As a side note, this line of reasoning always makes me laugh! It's an admission that herd immunity does not work. If it did, there wouldn't really be any risk to a room full of vaxed kids! In most practices, there are probably at least a few patients with allergies to specific vaxes and some with other health conditions where vaccines are contraindicated. Also, kids of various religions that are anti vax. This is certainly true in any school or day care that I've worked in over the years too.

Good luck, Kasia!
I was shocked when our pedi didn't argue with us about the MMR- automatically delayed a prevnar booster at her 15 month since she was sick)- He's REALLY pro-vaccine and been around forever(he was my pedi for gosh sakes)! But, all in all he respects and supports my decisions-
Good luck finding a pedi who will do the same.
