Question Vitimans?

I was wondering if there is anything like a Vitiman, that may help with depression. I seem in a fog lately and I am looking for a counsler but so far nothing is turning up? I wanted to try something before I am perscribed meds? I know I have depression but it went away before.

There are herbal remedies, but I found with my family member that these are probably worse than the medications since there are side effects and you have to watch out for mood swings. This is not something you want to have a "do it yourself" approach to.

Best thing if you are looking for better living through any kind of chemistry is to see a psychiatrist who will do a workup and blood tests - usually not too complicated - and then take the antidepressent prescribed. It is also important to remain in touch with the psychiatrist for any effects the medication is having on you. Some antidepressents send people too far "up" so they watch for that and either adjust the dose or balance with another medication.

You posted on another thread about finding counseling, and your health insurance will probably have an online directory for psychiatrists. Since they are medical doctors, they are the only ones who can prescribe antidepressants.

Jessica, I don't know of any vitamins that worked. I wouldn't recommend taking antidepressants either unless you have serious suicidal depression. If you just have mild depression and self pity feelings (non-suicidal) just talking to a counselor is the best solution. I learned alot from my counselor that i went to for 2 years. Writing alot of your feelings down can help too. Medicine can't always help people who are depressed. Your way of thinking and how you react to situations is what might need to be changed. My depression has subsided but i still have my bouts. Just getting through it is the hardest part. But i know that seeking help and noticing you are depressed is also a sign that you will be able to overcome it! good luck and send me a private message if you ever want to talk. Keep your head up! Natalie

Default Depression

Get your seratonin level checked. Sometimes when your serontin level goes down depression and anxiety will surface. Talk to your family physician before seeing a counselor and see what he/she says. Sometimes getting out and going for a walk helps. Different types of the year does this also. Especially winter when you don't have alot of sunlight. You get something called SAD=Seasonal Affective Disorder. Some people get it so bad that they need to sit under a ultra violet light several hours a day. Get a blood test to see if you are deficient in anything. Some B vitamins you are lacking will put you in a fog, especially a B12 defiency.

Thank you! Kate you really answer the question I was getting at. I wasn't really looking for an antidepressant, kinda what my body might be missing? I would rater take vitamins then take a pill with large side effects. I was told back in the end of last year I may need meds but when I went back it seem likes most of my syptoms went away. But now they are back. I even saw a friend I have not seen in a while and she asked me what was wrong usally I am happy go lucky but she said I look really sad. But I have had a death in the family 4months ago and my hubby and I lately have been arguing more then normal. And I have 3 kids all under the age of 5...and I rarely ever get a break. So it is all taking a beating on my body.
Thank you all for the advice I will try the vitiamins and see if they help.
