Default Water Birth, Anyone?

Anyone else aiming for a water birth? That's our plan. There are a few restrictions that would exclude you from the water birth, and hopefully we don't run into any of these complications! The biggest milestone for us is reaching 37 weeks, as you have to be at least 37 weeks to qualify! We'll be 37 weeks on Sunday!

Anyway, anyone else going for the water birth? I would like to hear other mama's thoughts/expectations and whatnot!

I always thought it sounded interesting and heard it didn't hurt as much but I don't know if my hospital offers that and I did it the way they usually do it just fine with Kate (of course it hurt but I made it) I am going to ask my ob/gyn about all the options when I see her though. I want to know what's available...

I wanted to do this soooo bad with Nevy but b/c I had GD they wouldn't let me! Then to top it off I was induced! The closest I came to water while in labor was to wash my hands !

Here's hoping when we get Pg with #2 I can do it!

I'm doing a water birth at home. I enjoyed having water sprayed or poured over my belly with the first 2, so I'm excited to stay inthe water the whole time this time. I am a little nervous, but I think that's normal when you try something new.

i wish my hospital would've allowed it! dh had to literally drag me out of the tub and dress me to take me to the hospital (i kept getting undressed and back in the tub!) same thing in the hospital too, they kept taking me out! i had so many medication problems, and i was never once in pain as long as i was in either the shower or tub. for baby #2 i WILL (one way or another) have a water birth. if i have to go out of state, so be it.

Wow! It's strange to see all the hospitals that still don't offer it! I know it's fairly new yet, but it seems like such a big thing these days. I've seen it a lot on Baby Story. I'd never even heard of it when I was pg with #1 in 2006. But when my midwife mentioned it this time around, I did a lot of research and I'm totally all for it! It's supposed to reduce the pain immensely. It's nickname is the "aquadural"! I just hope that I don't get so hyped up for it, just to be disappointed! I guess I'll find out in a few weeks and I'll let you all know!

Mrmommn82, that's awesome that you're doing it at home! How did you come to the decision that you wanted an at home water birth?

My sister has had 5 at home births, so I've seen proof that a healthy, low risk woman, doesn't necessarily need all the intervention. My 2nd labor, I was in the tub, and it was in a hospital, so they made me get out to push baby out. I'm excited to do this with less intervention, and at my own pace. With a CNM, just like in the hospital, only we'll be in my dinning room!

Sounds like a lovely experience birthing in the water.....
but I am thinking of a few drawbacks.

What if.....
stool comes out most times when pushing and pushing.

Floaties.

And the other natural products of conception that
float.

The optimal experience is a healthy Mom and healthy Baby!
