I found this topic on BabyCenter.com and thought it was interesting!
What are some crazy things you've done to get your baby do sleep??

I have a medical style chair that has vibration style massage and heat. I used to cradle Jaxon in there since the massage was a little more strong than the one in his bassinet. Never anything else. My dh used to sleep next to his crib and play with his hands or feet till they both passed out

When i worked at a day care center I found a trick to get one little boy to sleep: I just had to hold his hand until he fell asleep...otherwise he'd cry and cry! His mom was very excited when i finally figured out the trick to get him to sleep(high maintainance baby!)
With my own I have been very lucky that they like to be layed in thier cribs and go to sleep on thier own!
The baby i baby sit for now MUST be swaddled as tightly as possible and likes to be warm when she sleeps. Not sure if she will ever out grow the swaddling, she's 8 months old already! What ever works, right?!?!?!

swaddling is dangerous once they can roll as they can roll onto their face but not able to roll back over

With Alex I used to set up a chair in the kitchen right next to the dishwasher and we would sit there all night long, with it running. Nothing in the dishwasher! She just liked the swisshing sound I guess. We did the car rides, also.
With Devon, it's different for him every night! LoL! Grr! (Kinda why I'm also looking for other ideas!) For a while there I used to just let him fall asleep with my nipple in his mouth! He didn't want to eat, but he also wouldn't take a Nuk or Soothie or anything. Just the nip.

Michelle, you could be talking about my baby!!! Jack will NOT sleep without nursing himself to sleep. And usually, it's just a couple of sucks and he's out! God forbid if I try to move him to use the bathroom or get a drink - he awakens instantly. As I write this, he is beginning to fuss for me to come back (he JUST fell asleep). he will NOT sleep in his crib/bassinet, and HATES the car rides. As long as he's in my arms, he's happy as a duck, but if I put him down for a moment... WAAAAHHHH!!!!
So, I have no solutions, sorry!

Pippa had to be swaddled until she was nearly ten months, now you have to put a little sheet in her bed and tuck it really tightly under her armpits so it stays in place until she falls asleep.

I used to hum the same song over and over till she fell asleep. I also turned on the bathroom fan (its right next to her room) and that put her to sleep.

I recently bought a little lamb that plays white noise. It plays four different sounds. Kaylie likes the stream setting. I am blessed too that she sucks her fingers and soothes herself to sleep that way. She's 3 1/2 months old and has been sleeping through the night (10-12 hours straight!) for about a month now. If she does start whining in the middle of the night, I wait a few minutes and before I know it, she has found her fingers to suck on and falls right back to sleep. When she was first born, I would RUN to her the second she started whining. My husband told me that I should just wait a few minutes to see if she'll go back to sleep and 9 times out of 10, she will soothe herself back to sleep.
Sorry I can't be of more help but maybe a white noise machine if you haven't tried that already.

We have a Fisher Price monitor that came with a third piece to attach to the cradle or crib. It makes soothing sounds as well as vibrates the cradle. When it turns off, I just push the button on the remote (that of course is in bed with me!) and they fall right back to sleep. This was the best gift I ever received.
