Default Weaning

Well I introduced solids to Libby properly this week. She has taken to them like a pro! She seems much much more settled and shes had only breast no formula for 3 days!!

Woohoo! Or are you a little sad? I am writing by the way, a series of articles on weaning. I have done abrupt weaning and don't offer don't refuse. I haven't gotten to this part yet! But I always love feedback!

I'm disappointed we didn't make it to 6 months completely on BM. I had an ideal in my head and because we just couldn't do it no matter how hard I tried I did get very depressed about it. I hated giving her the formula (not that I think formula is a bad thing) but it was like a reminder of my failure and she was starting to enjoy those bottles so much that she was starting to refuse the breast or put up a fight about. So I did feel cutting out the bottles was a good thing. In a way I felt unless I was prepared to give up bfing, it was either solids a few weeks early or bottlefeeding. I do think the benefits of Bfing outweighs the risk of slighty earlier weaning. Its always a little sad to see them move on to the next stage but we've been using the sling a lot more this week because shes been happier and more settled and shes actually falling asleep in it which is something she'd never done before.

Ideals are very dangerous! I think it's so hard with breastfeeding bc it feels like your body has failed you. . .or that there's something wrong with it. But solids a few weeks early isn't too bad. . .and it probably is a good thing that you got her off the bottles

Not that I'm trying to plug my blogs or anything but I also wrote something about "Why I Spoil My Babies" I had to buy my oldes daughter's first bra It was traumatic! I think it's so good and so hard at the same time to see them pass into stages.

A bra, Valorie? Are you serious? I think our oldest kids are the same age, 8 right? We are so far from needing a bra here! I can't imagine.

I have nothing else to add to this discussion. I've never weaned any of mine and I really wouldn't know where to start!

Yes! (as mother wrings hands and weeps) I'm serious. And you're right. . .she is only 8 years old. . .in fact she just turned 8 in March. (sniffle, sniffle) I developed rather early too and I have to say that she's a very big girl. Not that she's chunky at all. . .she's tall for her age and kind of curvey which is exactly how I was. She doesn't need a bra all the time, but she has to wear a white leotard to ballet and w/o one it just doesn't look right. They do make leotards with bra lining in them. . .but she's not that tall yet. They don't make them in her size! You should've seen her father though. . .I'm not sure he's gotten over it yet.

Wow, I'm dreading that day! My girl is tiny, really tiny. The smallest in her class. She's in third grade and there are first graders bigger than her. She is skinny too, like I was. I say WAS because having the kids changed all that, sadly! OK, back to the regularly scheduled discussion. Sorry for the hijack!
