Weaning and Teaching to go to Bed
Gabby has been going to bed by breast... from 18mth til her b'day i did have her having some breast then going to bed on her own but then she stopped her day sleeps and would fall asleep almost straight away on the breast and then, to top it off, we moved... so we are back where we started
i'm very split about completely weaning her... part of me wants to allow her to wean herself, that way i'll know that she really doesn't need it anymore and i can avoid the task of weaning (so i'm lazy) but even the last week that i have been making her go to sleep next to me (which hasn't been every night as some nights she falls straight asleep on the breast) she has began to sleep all night again and the dr want her weaned cos she thinks that it might be hindering her weight (at the very least, weaning will allow us to rule out a potention cause) plus i know she really needs to learn to go to sleep on her own and with her current reliance on the breast i don't think she will ever wean herself... besides it's become so much of a chore for me; it's more of a chore now with only a few feeds (usually just the night fed and once or twice during the night) than it was when she was first born where it was 8+ feeds... i just want to be able to get her ready for bed, read her a story then tell her goodnight and leave and know she will be alright to go to sleep
it has been going ok so far, she has been fairly accepting of it although last night she keep crying for breast til she vomitted and then she asked for breast again but when i still told her no she realised that nothing was going to work and just cried herself to sleep
