Question Weaning off the Baba (bottle)

Wow I haven't been on here in ages. Grace is coming up on 2 yrs and still takes a bottle for naps and bedtime. No milk in it, just water. At night usually I can get away with telling her I'll grab one, but never actually making it back to her room with one. She'll be asleep when I check on her. But naps is another story. She cries, and bangs on the door and won't nap. Any suggestions? I don't want a 2 yr old who still needs her baba. Thanks!

let her cry...My daughter was the SAME way and started by falling asleep crying next to her door. I just emphasized that she was a big girl and didnt need it anymore. Only babies had bottles. I would give her a sippy cup with water, but that was it. She only fell asleep near the door about 3 times then got the hint

good luck!!!

Maybe you could start putting less and less water in the bottle each day until there's nothing in it but a sip or 2...she may get sick of it that way.

Also was going to suggest giving her a sippy of water instead and if she doesn't want that then too bad and she'll have to cry.

In my opinion she's old enough that she doesn't need a bottle and she can cry it out.

We're in the process of weaning our 10 month old here. She's down to three bottles a day now- and gets all other fluids in her sippy cup.
At one year- we're just taking it away. Sure she'll fight it- but stay strong and she'll move on from it.

Lots of luck!!

Maybe the bottle fairy could come and take them away for a little baby who needs them? Could you show her a picture of a little baby and tell her that she's now a big girl, and this little baby needs her bottles? Something I saw on Supernanny once.
Good luck!

I love the bottle fairy idea. It would be great if you could get her to throw all her bottles in a bag for the baby because she's a big girl. My mom had us throw away our own bottles and binki's...and watch the garbage man take them away. It'll probably be a rough couple of days and maybe no naps for a few days but if you take it cold turkey and don't give in She'll get used to it being gone.

I think that having her give her bottles away to someone who needs them is a great idea. The fairy usually leaves a thankyou gift behind, maybe it could be a wand, or a new sippy, or something else you think she would really like. I think it's liable to stick better if she's the one making the decision.

I just want to add that if your little girl is as quiet as mine, she might have a hard time understanding the bottle fairy idea. Its great, but it doesn't work for every two year old.

I weaned Alyssa earlier than I thought I would. Nuby makes these great (CHEAP!) soft spouted sippy cups. Alyssa got her bottles thrown away and switched over to those in one night and only had trouble with nap time for two days. After she's used to those, she won't mind being switched to a hard spout one, granted of course that it has cute pictures on it!

Good luck and its good to see you again!

Yeah I wasn't too sure about the age either, the thing I saw on supernanny had like a nearl 4 yr old (i think) and it wasnt her bottle but her pacifier.

Have you ever noticed how society makes one feel bad for the bottle past one year, but encourages breast feeding as long as possible?
I have EVERY intention of having Kenzie off the bottle by one year- but it's not the end all of all things, ya know?!

Now her paci? That'll be a challenge!!
