Default Weight

Here is a strange question....
I eat terrible, well, not entirely......but it is pretty bad.
When I am at home we eat good. I cook, and I try to use all organic ingredients. (Expensive as heck, but I think it is worth it)
But I still eat a lot, and I mean a lot of fast food.
3 years ago when we moved to this house I started to gain weight, cuz we started eating fast food or pizza all the time. And I mean allllll the time. I had it for lunch every day. 7 days a week. And then several times a week we would get dinner out, either at a resteraunt, or fst food or pizza. And then DH has a sweet tooth and was always bringing home candy, chocolate or ice cream. It is a wonder I lived to tell about it. Well of course I have ballooned up from it. I carry my weight well, people are shocked to find out that I weigh as much as I do. It has really started to show in my face. I hate it!!!!
So now to my question. I know I have to change. I don't want to be unhealthy, and I used to be a normal weight, borderline of too thin at one point. If I start eating healthy, and totally cut out fast food and the million extra callories a day that I eat, and eat a healthy diet of fruits and veggies and normal food am I going to end up losing weight instead of gaining it during this pg??? I don't want to hurt the baby, that is why I want to start eating better. And I have plenty to lose...... By no means am I saying I am going to diet while pg. I will eat as much as I need to , I just want to eat good food instead of bad. Has anyone else had this issue?? With my last pg, I was losing weight because I was eating healthy, and dr. kept complaining, so I started eating anything and everything, gained some weight and he quit complaining.
So I guess what I am asking is if I start eating healthy and end up losing a little, it won't make a difference to the baby will it.

haha me and you are the same on this subject

it wont hurt the baby at all, in fact it will help the baby!! Fruits and veggies are WAY better then fast food..

with both girls I lost weight during pregnancy, esp in the beginning...i started craving salads and fruits more so then fast food...it actually made me sick to even think about a cheeseburger with both!

With Kayds I lost 6 lbs in my 8th month because I was eating sooo healthy, and not because I thought I had too...because thats the onyl thing that looked any good!!

Now we are back to normal...fast food at least 2-3 times a week ( ) and we order out at least 1-2 so dont feel bad!!!!

OMG! Thank you so much for asking this question. I have been wondering the same exact thing! I can't afford to gain any more weight as I was overweight to begin with and have gained about 10-12 lbs so far. I was wondering if I just eat healthy stuff, will it make me lose weight (or at least maintain and not gain anymore) but be OK for the baby at the same time.

Wow DK-- Looks you, me, and everyone else are on the same page! When I was in high school I was super thin and could eat whatever I wanted without the consequenses. Then when I was pregnant with my first, I lost a LOT of weight due to MS, and my midwife would get angry with me with every visit. (She even admitted me and made me have a feeding tube!) I started eating junk all the time, and kind of became addicted to it! Totally on the same page as you- chocolate in any form, pizza, fast food, eating out all the time, lots of pasta, etc. And none of this was in moderation, either. I lost 20 pounds with my pregnancy, (and gained hardly any back by the end of it) but gained over 40 pounds in the last year after DD was born!! I can't even FATHOM fitting into my old clothes; not even my old maternity clothes!

With this pregnancy I lost a few pounds in the beginning again, due to MS. My midwife acutally asked if I was shooting for a healthy pregnancy this time because she thought I was deliberately controlling my weight! (If you call hugging the toilet 24/7, then yeah!!) Anyway, now I gained back all that I've lost, and I'm Soooo afraid of what I'll look like after pregnancy!

Sorry to tell my story in your post. I feel like we have identical stories. So what are all of us supposed to do? Is it ok if we lose weight during pregnancy, as long as it's in a healthy way? So DK, you said you totally cut out all fast food, etc. and started eating better- have you seen results?? Was that recently, or a while ago?

No, this is just the past few days. I want this pregnancy to be healthy. For the baby and for me. Not to mention, Tiffany is really big on eating what I eat. So, I can't let her see me eat McDonalds if I am not going to let her eat it!!! Altough I have snuck out to Dairy Queen to get us ice cream while she is sleeping. (dh is at home with her)
So, I don't have any results yet as it is too soon. I'll keep you posted though.
I swear that they put something in all that fast food to make it addictive. I don't know why but I really have a hard time giving it up!!!!!!
I am also going to try to cut out Sprite......and switch to water......

I still have not gotten back all my weight lost in the beginning. I started eating much much better, when I could, and after the MS all the junk just did not sound good anymore. I have noticed smaller thighs and my face getting thinner too, but the tummy just keeps growing!!

While I was pg with Nevy I had GD so I was told I could only eat some things. I ended up staying the same weight for my whole pregnancy but after I delivered I was 25lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight. If you eat healthy and dont diet you will probably drop the pounds slowly which the baby weight will fill in for and you wont even know the difference until after delivery. Eating healthy is more important then if you drop a few pounds. So most Dr. wont worry if you drop 10lbs during a pregnancy as long as its from eating right and not dieting! HTH

I lost weight with my DD too. Lost a lot and didn't start gaining til about the 3rd or 4th month. I didn't eat well AT ALL. I was sick a lot. She's perfectly healthy and always has been.
Don't worry too much!
