Exclamation weight gain help

well aiyana only gained 5oz in 3mos so next month we have to do a weight check. they are looking for a 2-4oz gain atlest. last time this happened i was giving her 1 can of pediasure a day and it help, she gain 6oz in a month. but she has to drink lactos free milk and ive only found soy pediasure. her food intake is in no way keeping her weight down infact she eats 1lb worth of food A MEAL! plus snacks and drinks so thats why the dr a slightly worried but not overly worried as her daddy is small and has super metabolism. she eats alot of carbs and proteins so i thought that would help but i guess not. anyone that could help that would be great

You need to look at other causes into her not gaining weight. I would start by having tests done on her thyroid. I have to be honest and say I'm not sure why they're waiting around to do another weight check.

One suggestion I have is to keep a food journal for her, writing down everything that she eats and brining it to the pedi when you ask for additional testing to be done. If he won't do it. . .go doctor shopping. Something is not right here.

I agree with Val...I rember last time this happend...obviously something is going on with your baby girl. Get her checked out and like Val said, if the doc won't listen to you go doctor shopping until you find one that will help you out. Good luck Jess...Keep in touch...I hope you find a good doc for Aiyana.

well her dr is great(she was my dr also and they 1 who found my pcos), aiyana has always only gained in small amounts. she was sick last month dropping under 16lbs and was dealing with diarrea so im sure that all doesnt help. but she wants to make sure she isnt having growth issues. if she doesnt gain we will be starting test. i have also have started a food log although she hasnt been eating like normal since her shots

I'm glad you're confident in her doctor. Even still--something is not right. This goes beyond just having diarrhea and not eating normally or being slow to gain weight. Pediasure is not really that great for babies. . .it's loaded with sugar. If she has to take it to gain weight. . .that tells me something. It's fine for a short term fix but that's not a good way to gain weight. She should be gaining at least a pound per month at this point. If she is close to that then it's really not cause for concern. But gaining 5oz over 3 months sends up several red flags to me. I honestly would be much more proactive and I wouldn't wait until her next appointment. Right now, she is diagnosable as a 'failure to thrive' baby and that really, really needs to be looked into before something that could've been prevented becomes a permanent issue. I'm sorry hun bc I'm sure what I'm writing is upsetting to read. . .but normal bodies will gain weight on normal, healthy food. Lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins. If she seriously has been typically eating 3lbs. of food per day as you said in your op (1lb. of food per meal) then 5oz over 3 months doesn't cut it. If it were me, I wouldn't wait. This is not even close to normal and the lack of weight gain really cannot be explained by anything that you've mentioned so far. I do hope you get it sorted out though.

By the way, the lactose intolerance and the lack of weight gain could be related.

My girls are 18 months and weigh 24 and 27 pounds and they were 9 weeks early. THat sounds really small for a baby around her age, but Im used to big babies I guess, my son was 10 pounds at birth.

It's not a matter of how big she is for her age. . .but rather how much she's gaining. Babies can be small. . .people are small. My MIL is not even a full 5' tall so I'm sure she was a tiny girl. But there should be a more significant upwards curve than there is with your little girl. In any case, good luck. . .I'm sure you'll do the best thing for her.
