Default We're all being lied to!!!!!!

watch 'The Great Global Warming Swindle' you'll find it easily enough on Google,
this was originally aired on the UK's channel 4 back in March 2007. It's very good too, not heavy going either.

Michal Chrichton (sp) doesn't believe in global warming either and wrote a fictional work based on his scientific research. . .but I can't remember the name of it now. Very interesting debate, IMO.

I just think it's funny that there is a VERY small subset of the scientific community who doesn't believe in global warming.....and funny, some of those very scientists were hired by cigarette companies a few decades ago to give "proof" that cigarettes didn't cause cancer. And now many of them are being funded by oil companies to prove that global warming doesn't exist (all documented).

I wouldn't put stock on people who get kick-backs to "prove" something....and I think presently people are inclined to look for excuses on why global warming doesn't exist so they don't have to feel guilty about their own lifestyles.

jadis, I agree with you 100%.

But I also do not trust politicians and entertainers who get a lot of career boosting publicity out of saving the planet.

I don't think global warming is happening at the rate that many environmentalists claim. Do the math. . .many claims simply don't compute.

I also think it's silly to think that anyone does anything out of benevolence on either side. I think on both sides there are scientists being paid to say stuff. And politicians and entertainers boosting their careers with the next pc thing.

As far as a small percentage of the scientific community though. . .that really doesn't bother me. Once upon a time there was a very small percentage of the medical community saying that breastmilk was better for babies than formula. There was once a very small percentage of the scientific community saying that the earth was what was revolving around the sun. . .etc., etc., etc. One small percentage of the archaeological community claiming Tut's toom was still unearthed. . .etc., etc., Things are discovered all the time by one small percentage of a particular community of scholars and all of the sudden they're geniuses.

Global warming is a fact, that is not the dispute. The causes of it are what are still up for debate. Whether or not humans are to blame should not be determined by the government (IPCC). They'll just go with whatever keeps our eyes off of what the big corps are really doing while we're being entertained with big movies about it.
I believe humans do more harm to the planet than any other species on Earth. That implies pollution and that's what we should be concerned with.
Doing our part to keep our planet healthy, will keep us healthy too. All sorts of diseases that were not as prevalent at the turn of the century, are rapidly increasing.
We have the technology today to reduce our toxic impact on the planet by 90%. Why don't we do it? Corporate greed. But we don't have to do what they say. What we DO have to do is join watch groups in support of controlling the pollution of those big corps. This is our democratic duty as citizens of a democratic country. It is up to us to watch these guys and get the truth from media. Not the mainstream media either, independent media.
Our lives depend on a healthy planet. Air, fire, water and even dirt are what we live on.
I do my part to reduce my toxic impact on my health and my families health as much as I can. If everyone did it, we'd all be healthier.
For real independent news, watch Democracy Now at 6pm on LinkTV. Or visit their website and democracynow.org to find channels and times. Great documentaries too, like Greg Palasts' Big Easy to Big Empty, and The High Cost of Low Price (walmart).

A fact???? I think its a brain washed fact. Yes its warmer, however I think it the natural cycle, there are warmer and cooler cycles, therefore ice age, non ice age, that is a fact. They are playing on people emotions, and teaching this to our kids, that its up to them to save this planet. Thats not right, its one thing to teach conversation, recycle, reuse, but not telling them they have to save us.
There are problems that need to be addressed, however I think the extent they are shoving down our throats is way over blown. We should be worried about our world!! We need it, we should want to take care of it. I don't think we should be blackmailed emotionally to get the job done

I agree with jadis. Global warming is happening. It isn't new, it's just getting more attention lately. My mom learned about it in college and she is getting ready to retire. Nothing new, the issue just isn't being ignored as it has been throughout my life time. I recently read reports that said the warming is actually happening at a faster rate than was predicted even just a few years ago.

I think it is a serious issue. It's ridiculous to me to listen to people de bunk environmental issues. Ask why? They have a lot to gain in being allowed to continue to dump poison into the atmosphere. There is a lot more money in trashing the planet than in being ecologically responsible. It will take effort and sacrifice to prevent further damage. Yes, it will take sacrifice from everyone. That's the problem. Nobody wants to do anything that will inconvenience them. Sadly, what some call emotional blackmail is the only thing that will get the attention of most people. The idea that it is ok to poison the planet without reprecussions is ridiculous. Global warming, cancer clusters in children and adults all have a common cause, pollution.

These scientists are very much like the tobacco "scientists" claiming that the link to cigarettes and lung cancer was a myth. I've read about a few of them and they all had links to big business, most to energy companies.

That's funny because I don't see one candidate in the current presidential field who stands out on the environment. My husband and I were just talking about this the other night. It's a fringe issue, as usual. No one is taking the lead and I doubt any of this lot would do one thing about it after winning the election. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so...

State of Fear. . .that's the book by Michael Crichton that suggests that global warming is more of a fad followed by a herd mentality rather than an actual serious crisis. It makes for very interesting reading. He pretty much suggests that those who ardently advocate for the severity of global warming haven't actually analyzed all of the data OR have skewed the data to continue getting research monies.
