Default wetting the bed, still

Ok, my six year old is still wetting her bed at night. She wears goodnights to bed. I had her go every few nights without a pull up and sometimes nothing at all, and she still wets the bed. I have no idea what to do. Should I just wait it out and see how long this goes on or should I talk to her doctor about it?

She has gotten up during the night to go to the bathroom, but I don't know if she was still awake or not.

Default wetting the bed, still

i'm with ya.

i've been struggling with my 5 1/2 yr old for years about this. he has been TT'd day times since he was 2 1/2, but night times is another story.

we were on holidays last weekend, and he wet the bed 3 out of 5 nights, in a hotel.... fabulous.

i just know i have to stop his drinking atleast an hour before bedtime. and send him to the toilet HEAPS of times before bed. this is what works for me. i know if i have a lazy night, and let him have a drink late, or am not insistant on the millions of toilet trips, then he wets. sometimes he wets anyway....... but he's getting better.

i dont have much hope with my kids though, cause wetting the bed runs in my family. i did it till i was 7, DH till he was 8, and various brothers and sister of mine and Dh's did too.

good luck. i know how frustrating it is.

I know how frustrating it is. Ds still wets the bed most nights at 6.5yrs old. I've given up for the time being - he doesn't actaully wake up at all to go to the toilet. It's still within normal age range so (because I'm lazy and have a waterproof covering on his mattress) I'm leaving it for awhile longer.

Thanks for the advice. Krys goes to the bathroom before bed. And she has a waterproof mattress covering also. So i think I will just leave it be. My brother wet the bed also, and I am not sure if I did.

Thanks again. at least I feel better that Krys isn't the only one.

If others in your family wet the bed till later, it might be a genetic thing for your dd. It can run in families (like late walkers). For me, I'd only be worried right now if she was upset by it - but that might be because I'm lazy and just can't be bothered fighting/worrying over that one yet.

molly who'll be six in july is still wet 5 out of 7 nights. Dry nights give her a rash so we just having to change a lot of sheets!

i'm not too worried my sister was still wet at molly's age i was told it runs in families. something to do with a chemical switch in the brain that means the kidneys speed up at night not slow down. most kids just grow out of it in the end if not there is medicine they can take that will put the chemical switch right it's a course of treatment not forever.

i still hate changing sheets lol

I hate changing the sheets too - get sick of washing them everyday. But alas, my sister and I were late bed wetters, so I'm guessing ds is just following the pattern there.

A few year a go a pedeatrician spoke at my daughter's pre-school. She said that there is a hormone in your body that stops your body from producing urine when you are sleeping. In children that wet the bed, their body hasn't started producing that hormone yet. There is a medication that dr's can perscribe that will stop the body from producing the urine, and sometimes taking this med, can jump start the body into producing the hormone on it's own.

Really, I never heard of that. If she is still doing it over the age of 10 (hopefully not) I will ask her Dr. about it. thanks.
