Default What are good prices??

Hi there!! I have a question for you clever folk.

I live in Connecticut, one of the highest taxed states in the U.S., and it also has one of the highest costs of living. And they wonder why new business don't come here! Grocery prices here are WAY, WAY out of hand, and they just don't DO bulk foods around here. The only plus side regarding this state of affairs is that I live about a mile from the town transfer station, and so I have all the coupons I could ever want- and they have a nifty "swap shack" where I often find good things I can use.

Anyway, what do you Coupon Mavens aim for, when you try to get the price down? For example, at ShopRite, Lawry's marinade is on sale at 3/$5 ($1.67ea), usually it is 2/$5, and with my coupon ($1 off 2) it brings it down to $1.33ea. Would you bother with that?

Would you buy Kraft dressing at $1.50/ea (with sale & coupon), when it is usually $2.49? Especially, when (like me) you have months worth stockpiled already?

Likewise- if I can get toilet paper down to 37 cents/roll, when it is usually 50 cents a roll- should I bother? Especially when I have to buy it in bulk, costing $6.49 each to do so. I checked how many coupons I had, and to take full advantage of it, I'd be spending $45!! Eeeep!! What do you think?

Another example- Carapello oil is on sail there for $9.99 each. That is $2 off the regular price, and I have a $1 off 1 coupon, bringing it down to $9. Is that a good deal, or would you do better? How?

Another example, toothpaste. The best I can do, by bringing it down with coupons & sales, is about $1ea for the national brands (crest, colgate, etc.) Is that worth bothering with, either? It is half-price, and it is better (and probably safer) than what you'd find in the dollar store. But I feel like I am missing something, because it doesn't seem like I can ever get anything close to "free".

What do you think? (thank you in advance!!!)
