What are the best diapers?
I was going to have a stash of diapers for when our son arrives, but what brands are the best? Which are a waste of money?
Pampers?
Huggies?
Luvs?
Other brands?
This is like buying feminine products. Brand, special absorbancy, shape, etc.
I've heard lots of good things about Pampers Swaddlers, but I have a coupon here for Huggies Gentle Care.
I don't really want to do cloth diapers unless I HAVE to.
What are your thoughts?

We started DS out on Pampers but it turned out he was allergic to something in them. His entire diaper area, 1/2 way up his back and down the back of his legs broke out into a rash. Since he was our 1st we had tons (probably 30 packages in different sizes) stockpiled that we had to give away. We switched to luvs and he was fine. Both our other 2 used them as well.

We use Pampers
Before DS was born I bought 3 Costco sized boxes of Huggies (there was a Costco coupon 2 months prior to his arrival) and that turned out to be a huge mistake for us! DS had MAJOR blowouts every single time we tried Huggies. It didn't take us long to stop using them and we became a Pampers family.

Pampers for us. I find huggies feel too papery and leak especially if your planning to breast feed.

It's been a while for me. I tried all the major brands, and found that they worked at different times with different kids. Also in daycare, that was pretty much the same thing - the parents supplied the diapers.
I hated the super absorbent ones that had little gel things in them. Those were a mess if the kids sat in wet for water play, and they would hang really heavy.
Best thing to do is to save all the coupons for all the brands, and see what works. Often the hospital will send you home with a few samples.
Instead of giving people diapers and diaper coupons, I have found it is better to give a gift certificate for the store where they are most likely to buy them.

I hated pampers we tired them for Kat and OH NO never again, and I am not big on the target kind. That was an OH NO, get a pack now, and Mom only has a few $$ with her. If you go with a store brand the walmart Parent choice, are ok we have used them a few times. No major blow outs, not wet seat. But the sizes kinda fit funny to me. I mainly only use 2 kinds, my CD and the HEBaby. Luvs worked well for my SIL, she was a only change a baby 2-3 times a day, and I was amazed on how little they leaked

I use both pampers and huggies. I like the huggies at night b/c they dont leak and soak up more and they dont have that gel stuff that sorta comes out on the babies skin if the diaper gets to full. I like the pampers during the day b/c they fit better and I can "feel" when she is wet b/c the gel makes the diaper big. With huggies they dont really blow up and its a guessing game if she's wet or dry. I've been thinking about trying luvs but I still haven't bought a diaper for her. She's 6 months old and we still have 3 packs of diapers left from my showers!! yeah we got a LOT of diapers!

The Luvs leaked when my daughter only had it on for an hour. We use pampers and only bought luvs once because I thought we should try it because it was cheaper but it didn't work out. We don't like the pampers baby dry (they didn't keep my baby dry) so we use pampers cruisers and they work great! We only change her 3-4 times a day (unless she poops alot) They never leak for her. We also used the swaddlers when she was a newborn and really liked them. The huggies didn't work for her because they would leak around the legs.

I hate Huggies with a burning passion- with Norah they leak at the legs and up the back. She is long and skinny, whereas Huggies are short and wide, not a good combo.
We don't get Luvs here, but I have tried the Parent's Choice brand, and they irritated Norah's bum, and felt really plastic-y to me. Our grocery stores in Canada (Independent Grocer, Loblaws, Supercentre) carry a brand called Teddy's Choice, which actually isn't that bad. They aren't very soft, but they do absorb a lot, and we have never had a leak with them.
Our preferred brand is Pampers though- swaddlers were great at the beginning, but now that she is eating more, she can soak through them if she goes for a really wikked pee. We mostly use Baby Dry- they are nice and thin, and we haven't had a leak with them yet (unless df puts them on, and doesn't put them high enough in the back).
