what can I feed this kid??
So there is a definite pattern whenever i give Kaydee any kind of dairy, she is vomiting uncontrollably for hours. She also cries and cries and arches cause her belly hurts her Im sure.
I found a website today that listed a bunch of signs/symptoms of a milk allergy, no a lactose intolerance. They included things like
1. cough
2. colds
3. runny nose
4. vomiting
5. fluid behind the ears
6. congestion
and a bunch of other things.
Kaydee was put on 2 different allergy medicines due to all the allergy like symptoms above.
I took her off all the meds, stopped giving her dairy and she has been fine. Every now and then she will still spit up like crazy. Usually I find out later that there was some kind of dairy in the food and I didnt even know it! Did you know that most hot dogs contained milk?? I didnt until she was spitting them up (whole pieces I might add...very gross)
Well tonight i was baffled. She ate chicken nuggets and french fries from Wendy's for lunch. Then she ate some watermelon. In the middle of eating the watermelon, she all of a sudden threw up. I know she didnt have too much because i was feeding it to her little piece by piece.
About 30 mins later she had a 5 oz bottle of lactaid milk (which is the only thing she is on now.) Next thing ya know, shes throwing up again. Mostly watermelon and milk, but some of her lunch was in there too
Is she allergic to watermelon too? Or did the chicken nuggest have dairy in them? Any ideas on what I can feed her that wont make her puke??
thanks

Im guessing that the chicken nuggets may have had milk or some kind of dairy in them. Im sorry that Kaydee's going through this, I hope that you can find something she can eat. Does she like vegies? Maybe you could take her some vegies from home when you go out.... if you get the time to do so, lol.

It sounds like you're going to have to stay away from proccessed foods. Make your own fruit snacks in the dehidrator, make her homemade chicken nuggets with real breast and crunched up corn flakes. It sounds like you can't trust convenience foods. My father even makes his own bread in a bread maker, it's really very good. I know you will find a way to avoid these allergic reactions, you're a good mom and will do what ever she needs to be healthy. I would check out the local health food stores for all natural convenience foods.

well that was the good thing--she didn't have any other symptoms of an allergic reaction to the watermelon. When she was an infant, jar peaches would give her a rash all over her face. She fine with peaches now, but the watermelon just came up in the spit up.
The only thing i can think of, is that there is dairy in the breading. I know when I make homemade chicken fingers I dip the chicken in milk first, and that helps the bread crumbs stick....who knows.
thanks guys

glad to hear that you've figured it out. Just a tip, when you make chicken at home, instead of coating it in milk, you could coat it in flour, then egg, then the breadcrumbs/cornflakes whatever you use. It helps stick aswell

Milk allergy is a tricky one, but can be a very very dangerous one if you ignore it. Most kids grow out of it by the time they are 4 - 6 years old. Although it is taking longer now for some kids to outgrow it.
If you susspect milk allergy take it seriously!!! I won't get into it here, but it can be very very life changing if ignored. If you want more info pm me. I don't want to bore you with info you don't want.
Good luck. I know it is hard to avoid dairy......but in the long run you will find your whole family eating healthier by the things you will have to avoid. So, not easy, but may be good in the long run. Hang in there.
Poor Kaydee........ throwing up.

I don't have kids, but I do have a mild lactose intolerance which I know have totally under control. I say "mild", cause it's only a bigger amount of milk (like 1/2 cup or so) that would cause me some discomfort. I don't have problems with yoghurt or cheese, either.
You mentioned lactaid. Your daughter can't possibly be allergic to milk and still tolerate lactaid. Lactaid is just a regular milk with milk sugar lactose broken down by the lactase enzyme. Milk allergy is, however, an adverse reaction to all or some milk proteins. So you see, these two are completely different. Milk allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to certain proteines and lactose intolerance is a discomfort caused by the lack of lactase enzyme in the body and inability to break down the milk sugar (lactose).
You definitely need to find a competent health care professional to help you with that. Maybe it's not milk after all, but an obscure preservative or coloring agent.
Lactose intolerance is definitely easier to live with than milk allergy (you can supplement lactose enzyme). The advice about weaning of the convenience foods it's really good. Been there, done that. Making your own chicken nuggets would take you maybe 10 extra minutes and it's definitely worth it.
