Here is a poem I wrote about my dining room table. Can anyone relate?
Officer, Our Dining Room Table is Missing!
“Report a lost dining room table?
Just fill in the loss report here.
Include all the pertinent details,
And make sure your story is clear.”
“The last time that I saw this table?”
I’m sure it was Thanksgiving Day,
Right after I scraped off the gravy
And shooed the kids outside to play.
“Description and notable features?”
It’s brown, I think, made out of wood,
Four legs and two leaves in the middle,
No cloth but I know that it should.
“Behaviour the last time I saw it?
What actions were seen taking place?”
A Hallowe’en witch and a jewel box
Were jostling books for a space.
Computers hid under craft projects
And homework competed with cards
The camcorder charged up its batteries
‘Mid triage of leaves from the yard.
Clean laundry and packets for shipping
Some candy, time management charts
Two long order forms and a seashell
A candle from Sunday School art.
“And what should we do if we find it?”
Just tell it we miss it and say:
“Please make an appearance for Christmas,
Go missing again Boxing Day.”
