What else can employers do???
My mother was a hard working, single mom of three. In her situation, many years ago, it was difficult to find services provided by employers to ease the stress of raising children and holding a job. I am now a student at the University of Phoenix and have been asked to write a paper.
The following is the topic: The purpose of this paper is to persuade a business committee that my office building needs a new service. The committee is composed of the owner of the business, the manager two fellow employees, and the building facilities manager.
I realize that many businesses offer child care for employees now, but I was curious if there is more that single parents and non-single parents could see as helpful or necessary from their employers. Please share your ideas with me. I would greatly appreciate it.......and thank you.

Some businesses offer child care. Many do not.
And often, children are not the only ones we are caring for. Elderly parents. Disabled spouses. Adult family members who are disabled or ill.
But you are looking for something in the building - if you do not want to look into child care, what about a workout area, cafeteria, on site health care of some kind. Having a referral center for dependent care probably would mean setting up an office and hiring qualified personnel.
You'll need to consider licenses for your proposal, as those are often obstacles. For example "yes we'd like to use the empty space as a child care center, but there are licensing requirements which we will not meet". Those requiements might be installation of new push open fire doors, security system, or not being in the basement or on an upper floor.

Welcome to the board!
Here are some of the things my hospital offers:
Job sharing,
daycare,
dry cleaning drop-off on site & pick-up on site (I'm dreaming here),
arranging for the pre-ordering & pre-payment of desserts (cakes, cookies, pies) for each holiday w/ delivery at the place of employment {My workplace does this w/ their catering business and it really eases some of the holiday stress of baking.}
Various uniform companies present a huge display of uniforms a couple times a year. Purchase onsite with payroll deductions.
Onsite coffee cafe. Makes the building smell so good.
Credit Union - checking, savings, loans, Christmas accounts, Vacation Clubs.
Gift shop from flowers to small gifts to toiletries to pantihose.
Hoping this are helpful.

Flexible scheduling for appointments. If my daughter had an appointment at 10 and I was supposed to work 9-5, it was nice when I could work 11-7 instead. Or, work 40 hours within 4 days to have a 3-day weekend. I didn't participate in that, but it was offered in one office I worked in. Some people really liked that so they could be home with their kids...and, they saved on daycare that one day a week (it adds up quick!).
