Default What in the World!

Ok so this is interesting. Somewhere I read that soy based formulas can actually cause health problems for the baby's that drink them. More so for boys than for girls. This was shocking to me. So... I googled it... The exact phrase googled was Soy Formula Effects on Boys.. Please take the time to google it. Not only is this soy formula going to cause my son to enter puberty early it could cause problems for his reproductive organs and bone mass but the FUNNIEST thing is that he will supposedly be Gay from drinking it. Now some of these articles caught my eye but give me a break there is no way a dietary thing could effect the type of person my son will love. And I could care less if he loves a man or a woman and long as he treats them right. Any one have REAL articles for soy formula effects. I have heard more than once it can cause fertility issues due to the plant estrogen but Google has failed to find me one I am willing to read.

Yep that's it. I told you to breastfeed!

Okay the exact issue is that soy formula has phytoestrogen (plant based 'hormones' that essentially behave like estrogen). That is why it could cause more issues for boys than for girls. You are essentially feeding him too much estrogen. . .ahem. . .or so the theory goes. This is a good answer from the Dr. Sears website and does not assert that one's sex preference is based on the formula he was fed.

Kristin try the the hypo formula. WIC will supply it with a dr.'s note. So just ask the dr. to switch. I did read a few neg. things about soy which is why I was happy Nevy couldn't drink it anyway.

Also the hypo should help his reflux.

On the gay thing, gay people are produced in the womb as the brain develops incorrectly. You would need very excessive levels of oestrogen to cause a problem especially as the body would produce more testorone to counteract it. If you avoided everything that contained oestrogen, there would be alot of things you could not use.

I agree with jen...if you are worried try the hypoallergenic kind...Kayds is on Similac Alimentum, which is hypo...shes does pretty well on it. We never had to try soy, but i never knew ANY of that...and you did make me laugh on what you found!

Breast feeding is best. Guess this is another example.

I can't believe that soy causes a person to be gay, myself.

i dont believe it at all sexual preference is dietary . We have scheduled Mr. Jaxon for an Upper GI so we will see what goes on. Dr says thats what he wants to do before switching Jaxon's formula again. Im sure they are all sick of me by now but tough cookies for them because I will be up their butts till it gets figured out. Im not looking forward to the GI but if thats what its gonna take then so be it! If the GI doesnt show Gerd then we will switch formulas to the Hypo Non Soy non Lactose formula and go from there.

I think it is scary!!
I don't use soy in anything I cook, just cuz I have heard about them not being sure about the effects of the extra estrogen.
I don't know about what they said about sexual preference.....know one really knows for sure how all of that works. And there are a lot of theories about it, but bottom line is that no one knows. But, hormones are so important to the body, and I don't feel the need to mess around with them. Whether it would be mood altering or early puberty, or mess around with their future fertility, why take a risk. So, for me and my family that means no soy products. I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to food or medication.
That is why I breastfed. I didn't trust the formula companies. (I know sounds paranoid) There is always come new study or recall waiting to scare the heck out of people. I figured if I breastfed I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Alejandro is 8years old an has been on soy since he was 6mnths old..due to lactose intolerence. I heard about this a while back on the news. Your child needs to drink a liter of soy milk a day for it to cause problems during puberty. It's cause of all the extra estrogen in it. I don't think any teen drinks a liter of "milk" a day. As for the bone loss...I really don't think this is true at all...otherwise women would not have increased bone loss after menopause...because of the lack of estrogen.

More research needs to be done before coming to a conclusion.
