What is the price of integrity?
I got home from work tonight and my wife was on the phone with the local Pizza place. She asked me if I would go pick up the pizza. So, I got back in the car and off I went to get the pizza. I walked in the door of the pizza place and there was a line of ten or so people. Some were ordering and others were simply there to pick up their pizza like me.
The young lady behind the register was very pleasant and spoke in broken English. It was apparent she struggled making change, even with the register doing most of the work.
I stepped to the counter when it was my turn and gave her my name. She turned and grabbed the pizza, looked at the receipt, and told me the total with tax. I had already figured the amount of change due to me, $2.38. When she handed me my change, I folded the two bills and walked towards the door. I walked to my car and put the pizza on the front seat. I looked at the bills as I went to put them in my pocket and the bill on the outside was a $5.00 bill.
I know what I did...I'm interested to know what you would do! Please share!
UPDATE: Interestingly enough, this last Saturday I took the kids to get a birthday cake for my wife. We entered the store and walked to the bakery in the back. The cake was nice, just what I ordered, but we needed candles and ice cream. I went to get the ice cream while my daughter went to get the candles. We all met at the check out counter and I paid for our items. We all walked out of the store and got in the car. As my daughter started to buckle her seatbelt, she realized she had the candles in her hand. She said, "Dad, did you pay for the candles?" I said, "I think so, why?" She went on to say she didn't put the candles on the counter and she just walked out with them. Once again, I'm in the car, engine running, ready to leave and I have candles worth $2.37. No one will miss them...right?
