Our home definately. Other than that, I'm finding out everything else doesn't seem to be worth it.

your house is the main thing unlss you are lucky and buy it out right . it makes me laugh people who say im not in debt and they have got a £300.000 house which hasnt even been paid for yet your only debt free when you have paid your house off.

Somewhere to live, a way to get work...things that you NEED to survive. Not things that you want, using credit for those things is a slippery slope.

An education, a house, a car. Those are the only things we consider worth going into debt over. And we keep our cars cheap and simple. And used.

I guess I don't look at a house like a debt so much--even though technically it is. I could sell my home and easily pay it off PLUS have a nice chunck of equity. I can't say the same for our cars that have depreciated faster than we could pay on them.

House, education, and health care - you just never know what kinda health situation will come up. Other than those things it isn't worth it. Not even for a car.

Default Things worth going into debt over.

House, car (within reason), education and health -- these are the only things worth going into debt for as far as I am concerned. My husband and I could never have anticipated that at 39 years of age he'd be diagnosed with kidney failure. We have insurance but are now in medical debt to the tune of millions. It's mind boggling to say the least. But we couldn't have planned for that.

Health care isn't a decision, though, it's just something that happens. A house, an education, a car, credit cards, all of these are things about which you can make a decision before the fact. Catastrophic health problems just hit you upside the head like a 2x4. No planning possible, no decision to be made, except if you want to live or die. And you might not have a decision even then.

About cars - that I consider to be completely acceptable debt, depending on the circumstances. Because housing is so expensive in our area, we have no choice but to live an hour and a half drive from where my husband works. He could take public transportation, but it would at least double his commute. A car is an absolute necessity for us, and it has to be a good, reliable car able to handle the mileage he puts on it. But, when I was single, living in a city with good public transportation and within walking distance of work, I didn't even own a car.

A house mainly. There are things, of course, that can't be helped such as health, etc. The car? Depends on where you live. I live in a place that is without any reliable system of public transport, but when I was in Manhattan, you didn't really need a car. In fact, I found that having a car would be more of a liability and hassle.
