My dh bought me a Brother machine from Wal-Mart when dd was a baby. it worked great for a while, but since I like to sew a lot---I think it's worn out. I would love to have a machine that does a little embroidery but nothing to fancy.

I have a Janome 6260QC. Love it. I had a White 2037 before that, and had nothing but trouble with it. It was my first machine, and I almost quit trying to learn to sew because of it.

Default Kenmore 28

I have an embroidery machine, but I borrowed a Kenmore 28 sewing machine to knock out a quilt. I can't figure out how to lock the needle shaft so it doesn't go up and down so I can wind bobbins. There must be a button or something, cause the wheel doesn't unlock. Hopefully someone who has that machine can help me.

Don't laugh.

I have my moms old Kenmore from the late 1960s. With "design cams". Installed in her 1940s sewing cabinet which originally fit her White sewing machine.

I used to sew a lot more than I do now, but my recent stuff has been making Halloween costumes. That hasn't happened for several years now. But my son used it to make his star trek costumes, and his girlfriend's star trek costumes. And he won a prize for the costumes at a convention. Go figure.

Sal,

See the hand wheel on the right of your machine, look at it straight on. You will see a knob in the middle, perhaps silver? (can't get to my kenmore at the moment so not sure if it is the same color as the wheel or silver).

Now sit back in front of your machine, with you left hand hold the wheel so it doesn't move, with your right hand, loosen the knob. You will be turning the knob.

That will stop the needle bar from moving up and down. If it doesn't, your machine needs a trip to the Sewing Machine Doctor for a little repair on the ... my mind went blank! what the heck is that called???? oh goodness! I can't remember! well the sewing doc will know.
