Default Credit Counseling Programs

My DH loved seeing his stack of credit cards, until we sat down one day, calcualted all our minimum payments, TOTALs, and found out, that even though we were paying $50 for this one CC, every month we paid that, we still owed them $25 per month to be even. Then a commercial came on (some lawyer guy), and he explained that if you use a CC to buy a meal at like McDonalds for like $5, it could take you 30 years to pay it off, and youd be spening thousands of dollars on the interest, fees, etc.

Finally, he called this one place. I was NOT thrilled when they said we had to pay a lump sum up front (was like $250, but you get that money back, after everything is finally paid off!, so I think of it as a security payment). Anywho, went to check our credit reports, and was floored, when I saw how great our credit looked! We are paying less per month, theres no interest or whatever, and were paying it off faster, then if we had paid the minimum payments. The only 'sad' thing, is the accounts have to be closed, you close them yourselves.

I think the one we go through, says youve gotta have at least $5000 in debt, but that even includes your gateway/dell CCs!! Just thought i'd share our story, just in case any of you are thinking 'were stuck under this debt and there no way out!'
