Default what'd you do?

so, i'm sure you've ladies noticed me complaining about DD's lack of words. she only says a handful - dad, dog, up, uh-oh, addy (the chihuahua), hi, bye bye, juice, baby. but she still hasn't grasped words like ball (it's still ba) and mom/my is still "MA!" & our doctor really wants her saying things like "want juice. want up." etc. etc. she understands words, commands, and what we say... and she tries to talk, she just can't get the words to form.

anyway, this morning DH held her up so she could turn on the fan (first time ever) and she gasped when it started to spin and said "uh-oh!" and i said "what'd you do?" she turned around really quick, gave me a look and said "What'd you do?" it was so funny & so clear! now she keeps coming up to us and saying "uh-oh! what'd you do?" and she will ask you until you answer... my little detective. poor DH isn't getting away with anything anymore!

Agreed. I think the MOST important aspect of speech is understanding language(ie, following simple directions).
Each pedi has different expectations for word development. I think Izzy's sounds normal.
I would have cracked up with her copying!

Yeah, I think everyone has worried that their child couldn't really speak any words and didn't have much of a vocabulary, but when they start talking they REALLY start talking. I was unable to see my daughter for like literally 6 months but during that time she went from saying nothing to almost talking as much as my wife

Mr. Bugles, you crack me up!!! You're wife must have been lonely without you and spent a lot of time talking to your daughter! hehe!

Amber, that is so funny that she just turned around and said that to you! Kids are sooo funny sometimes. Alex cracks me up everyday with new phrases and words. Today she asked, "Mom, where baby Mommy?" (She was asking me where baby's mommy is!) Anyway, I think that that is just the beginning for Izzy, and from now on she is going to surprise you everyday! hehe!

That's a cute little story to tell.

I remember being concerned about our 6 year old - he was barely talking at 2. He would only say a handful of words. But it was like overnight, he had this HUGE vocbulary (he must've been saving up!) and hasn't really stopped talking since!
