most respectfully the Uke is not an easy instrument toconvince a child to learn as it isn't a well known or popular instrument with younger or teenage children

Being a musician I would have to agree, since you have a 5yo, it would have to be the drums (warn the neigbors, buy earplugs). Rhythm before anything else! Piano lessons may actually take away the fun (usually piano programs are very rigid). As for guitars, your kid may have trouble fretting because of his hand size. I would also recommend wind instruments. But best of all, why not encourage him to use his God-given instrument, his voice!

Cheers!

Thanks Shannon! So many kids become inhibited about singing, when they should enjoy it! That's the basics!

You can size guitars and violins to the child. But I believe that guitar is more difficult because of the larger size of the instrument's neck.

The 1/32 size violins are adorable!!!

Yes violin music is so much to to die for. No trouble with frets too. I wish my parents forced me to the violin when I was young, I could have been a master by now! Okay I reconsider my advice, start him on the violin NOW so that you can have a cute li'l Vivaldi within 3 years!

Kids are also surprisingly natural at things. It is really important to start early with singing because I heard that children naturally breathe into the diaphragm (which is the correct way), but gradually breathe through the chest as they grow older. It will also greatly contribute to his health.
