What's the big deal about "tolerance"?
I hear the term "tolerance" this and that thrown around like it's the ultimate answer to peace on earth! I do not believe we as Christians are called by God to be tollerant to all beliefs and actions of people--in fact the bible gives examples of otherwise. I completed a blog a while back that should come out soon on this subject and I'll gladly post it here when it does.
I'd like to hear from others where the line should be drawn in regard to "tolerance" if at all? Do you believe there is a time to speak out about what the Bible says is not right? I'm not talking about condemnation here at all, I'm talking about teach our children that there aren't grey areas in everything.
Any thoughts?

Great forum topic MJ! I am interested to hear what others have to say. We deal with this issue a lot living where we live. We never teach our kids to be tolerant. I think it's anti-Biblical actually. (Tolerant meaning laissez faire--you do your think I'll do mine.)

tolerance... depends on how you use it, we are to be tolerant of people, not their sins. Condem no one, that is God's job on judgement day, wrong is wrong from a lie to murder it is all wrong to God. We should love the murderer, but not love the act of murder.
For we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God

Oweirdo, I think you and I probably share the same view. I have a blog on judging others along this similar line--though actually different from this one on tolerance. You'll see what I mean once it's released next month.
Anyway, I just put out the blog on tolerance though I think the concept is nothing new to most Christians. I was more writing to respond to the word "tolerance" which is really much more vague than liberal society may believe. Clearly we shouldn't tollerate EVERYTHING right? http://christian.families.com/blog/a...to-be-tolerant

Hate the sin, love the sinner.....isn't that how it should go.

Haha wel if you read the gospels Jesus wasn't very tolerant at all! And neither should we be, however I do think we need to be respectful and loving toward others. That is different than tolerant though.

That's what I mean Melissa about tolerance being so vague. Where and when do we draw the line? Each person, I believe has their limits to what they can tolerate morally (esspecially). Because Christians are less tolerant of what the Bible says to be immorality, many of us are labled as "intollerant" as if it's a bad word; that because our convictions are different than others somehow, our beliefs aren't as worthy of "tolerance" by others.
Love the sinner, hate the sin truly did seem to be the message Jesus conveyed to us.

Yeah I totally see what you mean. "Tolerance"is one of theose PC words that gets thrown around these days. It goes along with the accusation that Christians are "closed-minded" about things. Which is a negative way of putting it, but many people tend to do it. I guess it is a form of persecution that we face as Christians these days - labels that make beliefs and morals into something negative sounding. Good thoughts MJ!
