Yea, we use deals sites. And rather than go for gimmicks, we really shop pretty savvy.

I bought a really attractive ceramic holiday mug from a thrift shop, filled it will yogurt covered pretzels and gave this to a friend. He was thrilled! Luckily, he's not fussy. Cost of gift: $2.50.

Last year we recieved a huge box of gifts on our front porch, we aren't needy, I know who left it, and she left it because she couldn't believe we were only spending $50 on each kid. So they got a rediculous amount of gifts last year. We let them open them all, but kept a few back that we are wrapping and giving to them this year.

I have also just left a gift in the original box and given it to someone else. I know I'm a cheep skate.

$50 sounds like a normal amount to spend on each kid, or maybe I have missed something....?

We go to second hand stores. That's where I did a lot of my shopping last year. No one seemed to mind. I have come to like the $1 section in Target as well.

I have children under the age of 5 so I think $50 is plenty! There has been discussion in another forum about older kids wanting more expensive gifts, but I think that only applies to technology. You can still give things they like under $50.

When our family does our gift exchange there is a $20 limit, and we allways are given, and give, thoughtfull, well liked gifts.

One of the coolest gifts I've been given was a "regift" My sister gave me a George Forman grill with interchanging plates. She didn't care for it, and bought herself one she liked better. This year I'm giving her family a board game we've only played 2 times in the last year. I'ts one I know her kids will LOVE! Harry Potter Scene it! And I know she won't be offended at recieving a used gift.

I usually give very inexpensive gifts. I'll go to the dollar store and get decorative tins, apothecary jars, and mugs. Then, I'll go to the high-end grocery store (which I only shop at when I need a special ingredient for my baking or at Christmas) and buy gourmet coffees, tea bags, or hot cocoa mix. I buy the coffee in the trial sizes and the tea bags and cocoa mix that are individually wrapped. For small gifts, for my landlord, delivery man, etc., I give a mug with 2 or 3 of the mixes or coffee. The tins and apothecary jars are used for my special friends and family. I add in home baked shortbread cookies and biscotti or other goodies. This has been very well received over the years. I wrap these in clear plastic wrap and curling ribbon (which I keep stored year round.)
