Where do you work and what do you do?
Hi, just curious about the working moms here. Where do you work, how did you get the job, and how do you work around your kid(s)?

Re: Where do you work and what do you do?
I am thinking about getting back into the medical thing I have been looking not really trying. I only want to work 2-3 evenings a week to talk to other adults and I loved my job and I am really good at it. I am thinking at maybe a hospice house or homecare this time instead of cardiac care. A;thopugh I love it all.

I am thinking about going back to work part time. I am a social worker and recently was approached by a friend about working for hospice part time. It doesn't seem to be too bad of a deal, but my baby is only 6 months old and I know I will have a harder time leaving him then he will. I have made arrangements with a friend to watch him while I work. She has two children and I know how she raises them, so I feel comfortable. Plus I looked into daycare and the ones I looked at said I had to put him in full time because of his age. I can't do that! We'll see how it works out. I am going to call on Monday. Sorry for the rant

whatever daycare told you you had to put him in full time becuase of his age is in it for the money only. When they are older...around 3-4, yes putting them in for longer periods of time is a good thing...one it helps then get ready for school, two it helps them remember rules, curriculum, and days previous work better, and three it is good for socialization. When they are that young...upto about the age of three...having them in part time or full time makes no difference at all...and anyone that tells you different is WRONG! Coming for a preschool teacher of MANY years.

I thought it was a bit weird. They tried to tell me it is because each baby has his/her own crib for the entire time he/she is there. They don't share cribs. But whatever. I don't think I will be putting him in daycare anyway. but thanks for the advice. I thought it sounded weird

I work part time as administrative assistant for my local Assocation of Realtors. I have been there 5 years and work the hours while my children are in school. Then I also have my own part time business making Aromatic Products from home. This has been harder to get going because, well, the children and the other job take most of my time. But, later in the evening and on free weekends, I push my home business....

I'm a secondary school and college teacher, I got the job as it is the school I went to as a student. My husband is on maternity leave so he is with the children all day, I finish work at around 4 so from then onwards is family time for me.

I work full-tiime in a hospital as a case manager. It's not my ideal job as a parent, but I'm finding that it isn't as easy to get back into a nursing position as I thought it would be. Because my husband works full-time as well, my parents are my babysitters. They are both reitred and use babysitting as time with their grandchildren. (They also watch my one sister's girls.). I know I'm lucky in that sense, but hopefully, I'll be able to spend more time at home with my son one day.

I am active-duty military. Right now I am deployed but am scheduled to return next month!!!! So, no, it doesn't work well for my boys. They do appreciate what I do, and I make a point to do as much as possible with them when I am home. I am also going to school to become a school teacher, hopefully I will have better hours. As for my boys, I have had them in both daycares and home care and prefer home care. They seem to be doing well.
