Default Who is breastfeeding now, or pregnant and planning to?

I was just wondering if we have any mommies who are currently breastfeeding babies. Or any pregnant moms who are planning to breastfeed? I think this board can be a great source of support and was just wondering who's out there?

I'm pregnant with our 4th baby, who is due in July. I've breastfed all three of our girls and am planning to breastfeed our son too. Who else is here?

I am 33 weeks pregnant, and I really want to be able to breastfeed til my son's 2. I'm trying not to pressure myself, but last time I only lasted two weeks, and would really like to master it this time.

I would like to make it 2 years this time too. I'm 29 weeks pregnant. The other 3 all weaned themselves, but none made it quite that far.

Hi and welcome!
First of all, Congratulations on your new baby!! The first thing that comes to mind is that at 6 weeks they seem to go through a growth spurt and need more. I don't know how often the baby is nursing, but maybe the baby needs more frequent feedings. Mine all nursed more during growth spurts. Also, make sure you are resting enough (not so easy after the first baby!). Drink LOTS of water. This always helped my supply with my other 3 kids. We are expecting our fourth in about 2 months. I always found that I'd get busy and not drink enough. Blessed thistle and fenugreek herbs can help increase supply. I found this link for you with some great articles and tips from Dr. Sears and La Leche League on increasing milk supply.

Good luck to you and baby.

Default Breastfeeding

[quote=pattiewrites]I was just wondering if we have any mommies who are currently breastfeeding babies.
I am breastfeeding twins--they just turned 1 last Friday. I have breast fed my other 3 kids for 3.5years, 2.5 years & 18mos. respectively. I had to wean my 3rd baby at 18mos because along came the twins. I have nursed through all or most of my pregnancies as well. (But when we were having twins I opted to nurse due to the increased risk of premature labor.)

First of all, one thing you may want to consider is getting some extra help! Babies can be very overwhelming, especially if they are not sleeping contentedly all the time! Newborns can nurse as often as every 45minutes--it is normal to be very, very exhausted!
Fenugreek worked very well for me (with the twins) but also some things that work are simply being close to baby--try wearing him in a sling or even sleeping with him near by (like in a co-sleeper or something). But the best way to increase supply is by stimulation--nurse, nurse, nurse, and then nurse some more. Ironic that the answer to most nursing problems is to keep nursing!
I highly recommend that you get in touch with La Leche League or a lactation consultant certified by IBCLC, if it continues to be problematic
