Default Who knows anything about Lyme's Disease?

So i had a post up here awhile ago about DH getting really bad migraines, actually to the point that he passes out and has memory loss of the whole night...I finally got him to go to the Dr. after we found out that his 22 yr old cousin suffered a bad stroke, and his other cousin (same side) was jsut diagnosed with a brain tumor at 25.

Ths MRI/MRA came back normal (thank god!) But his blood work came back...he has a low platelet count, low B12, and they found traces of Lyme disease.

Now he has to go to a neurologist to find out whats causing the migraines, and a hemotologist to find out whats up with everything else.

Anyone know anything about Lyme's? He doesnt really seem to have any of the symptoms I read about...I know the low B12 can cause bad memory, which is him all the way. (I can tell him something and he will forget we had a conversation 10 mins later!)

Any help is appreciated!

Lyme's disease is nothing to mess around with. It causes all sorts of problems but really the most noticeable is EXTREME FATIGUE. Of the people I've known to have it, it can take a year or more to recover. . .and a round or two of heavy duty anti-biotics. If he tests negative. . .I'd seriously consider going to a specialist and having him tested with a Lyme's disease specialist again. . .there are something like 200 variations of Lyme's disease. (I might be off on that number--but it's a whole bunch of different variations of it that 'regular' labs don't pick up bc htey don't test for them.) HTH Let me know if there's anything else you want to know. . .my sil has it.

well the tiredness makes sense...he can fall asleep at the drop of a dime...and anywhere too! You all of a sudden look over at him and hes dead asleep...theres been numerous times hes pulled over and asked me to drive because he could feel himself falling to sleep

what are other symptoms? I know body aches is one, but thats about all I know

Symptoms are varied depending on the type you have and the person. Extreme fatigue is definitely the biggest one and this could be why he's so not into helping you around the house. . . or not! But maybe he's just really too tired. Somewhere on his body he should have a tell tale tic bite. It's red and circular with a tell tale white spot in the middle. (see here) But there not always that easy to find.

If you leave it untreated it can cause paralysis, an enlarged heart, other nuerological problems (Lyme's disease is often misdiagnosed as MS) My sister in law left hers untreated and is in a wheel chair and has lost most of her bathroom functions. But she has chosen not to treat at all. (That's another long story.) Anyhow, it can be a big deal so definitely follow up and follow up vigorously. There are other things it can cause--but those are the only ones I'm familiar with.

He hasnt been bit anytime recently, at least not that I know of...i know i havent pulled any off of him, and tick season is just beginning here...he did grow up in NJ pretty much in the woods, so the dr said it could be from 10 years ago...she said maybe his defenses have been working hard against it, causing him to be super tired, and maybe thats why they only found traces of it in his system

he goes to the hemotologist on may 8th, so hopefully we will get more answers

as far as him not helping, we had a huge falling out about 2 or 3 weeks ago and ever since we fought it all out (we really stayed in control, although some things were said that were hurtful on both sides) but at least we got everything out and have been great ever since...and hes been helping more then usual

Yep--that's very possible. My sil was diagnosed with Lyme's disease a year or so ago but had been living with it for almost 9 years.

I wish it was easier to find out whats wrong. I know there are tons of things to test for but wouldn't it be nice if they could just test for everything at once and be done with it...I hope your dh turns out ok. I don't really know anything at all about it but I do know about getting strange results back and having to see other doctors just to find out you're ok. Let us know how it goes.
