Default Why does our cat do this??

We have a one-year old neutered cat. Every so often, he'll knead a blanket, holding part of the blanket in his mouth while he does it. Is this his way oftrying to mate, although he's fixed?? It's kind of odd!!

Kittens knead while they're nursing... and having the blanket in his mouth sounds just like that. It's probably a comfort thing, too cute!

any kitten that was taken awy from the mother too early is known to do this...i have had MANY kitties that i have bottle fed that did the same thing....it is a comfort thing, just as a kid who sucks their thumb, or has a binki

I had one kitten who would find edges to your shirt and do it, and one who used to suck on the skin in btwn you thumb and 1st finger and knead....kinda strange, but whatever makes them happy!!

It's called wool sucking. And yes, cats will do it if they were weaned too early. It's sort of a compulsion thing with them.

I had one that did this. I would never let him, and had to keep a blanket close by for him since chewing on my shirts was yeechh.

Puddy had a blankie. Awww.

I guess that makes sense! He certainly does not do this in an aggressive manner, and it does seem to comfor him... he usually falls asllep on the blanket with a smile on his face! I don't mind it, just found it odd (and cute!!) We got him when he was 6 weeks old and had already been weaned, on regular kitten food. Don't know if that is early or not...

i work at a pet store and we do not suggest taking the babies away until at the very least 8 wks...but we wont even let them in the shop until the are 10 wks...so yes, although it used to be common to get a 6 weeker, its not good for the baby!!
