Will the Cost of Gasoline Affect Your Summer Vacation?
It's summer vacation time!
Traveling means using gasoline consumption.
The cost of a gallon of gasoline is rising daily.
Will this affect your summer vacation plans?
Will you take your usual vacation trip?
Will you fly?
Will you drive a shorter distance for a trip?
Will you take day trips (no overnight)?
Or will you just stay at home and enjoy the comforts
of home w/ the front porch swing and the pool or sprinkler?
Please let us know.

We vacation in December (odd, I know). During the summer we typically stay around home and do little day trips (local amusement park, nature parks, etc.) DH and the 2 older kids will go to my inlaws cabin (about a 2 hour drive) but that place is not for me....just a smidge too rustic I can't imagine we won't still do those things.

Great images!!! With a baby due in September, I don't want to be too far away from the doctors in case something goes wrong. I am just paranoid right now. We moved in February and used up vacation time for that. We are saving the few days that are left, for when the baby arrives. That way db can spend some time at home or the hospital, however it works out.

It wont make any difference to us, British petrol prices havn't risen too much as 69% of the price is tax, so say there was a 4% rise in petrol price, it would make virtually no difference as it is only 31% of the price .We always drive as there are only two of us, and three children so if we flew we would need another adult to take care of one of them, so not possible not only that standing around an airport for two hours is never fun.
This year we will be going down south, then to Devon for a week and then we are thinking of going to South Wales for a week too.

so far, we've actually "vacationed" more! we live about 45 minutes from the beach, and we've already been 3 or 4 times... we normally only go once. (we take it for granted, i'm always shocked to hear of people who have never seen the ocean). we were supossed to go see my MIL in may/june, but plane tickets to texas were outrageous! so bad, that we actually started to try to guess how much gas would be to drive.

It makes a huge difference to me. This summer just happens to be the summer of transition and life changes.
Already affected the price of going to Florida to set up my rental for when I move. It has affected the cost of moving long distance. And I will be driving down with cat. Then son and I will be flying back for wedding of DS1. Then driving DS2 to report for Coast guard. Then flying back to FL.
Had I moved last year I would have gotten more money for my house, paid slightly more in rent, but not paid the amount of gas I have to pay now. And I would have been able to come up here and do all the family things without all the running back and forth over thousands of miles.
But that's my life. Reacting to things outside my control instead of being able to plan. And because I am always in reactive mode, I pay.
I won't be buying that sports car I wanted any time soon. I have to replace my car and will be looking at fuel economy and price tag.

We camp most weekends out of the summer, so we consider that our summer vacation.
Yep, we have a camper to lug around, but the kids love it, and it's our family time.
We are not going to let the price of gas get in the way of that.

We are still going to Florida for vacation next week, but the high cost of gas will cut into the money we have to spend while we are there.

Not that I'm disputing that standing around an airport is fun but there are those oddball families that have, oh let's say, a 5 children under the age of 6 or 5 under the age of 7 and they do not have an adult to take care of each child. It can be done.
