Jae just started asking to wipe herself. I let her with pee, number 2 I have to go in after and re-do it.
At 5 they should know how to do it on their own, maybe not perfect, but definitely by themselves! I mean thats kindergarten age!!

that's what i was thinking! she would sit there and say "i'm done!" i was like "okay??" took me a few minutes to realize that i had to wipe her. i couldn't believe it. i mean, in the first year of potty training --okay. but is after that i just don't see any excuse for it.

Wondering what she'll do in kindergarten.......
She does need to learn to wipe herself. Front to back. Flush. Wash and dry hands.

Mine could all do it by 5. They started full time education at 4 in the UK and the teacher doesn't help with that type of thing. Maybe she'd been encouraged to let someone wipe her as she get repeated UTi's or something?

What does she do at school, just go around covered in wee and poo, poor child. Maybe it's a bit of lazyness and she thinks because mum and dad aren't there, she can take advantage? I would of thought if she never wipes thats very unusual unless she had a problem which means she was only recently trained.

Vinnie has been potty trained for about 2 months now... he just started wiping himself about a week ago. I still go in and do it after him, but 90% of the time, I don't even need to. However, my younger brother, who will be 9, STILL needs to be wiped. My step mom wipes him because she is afraid he will clog the toilet. It's a bit insane. One time I was over there and she wasn't home, so he asked my dad to do it ((and I love my dad, but he's not the "hands on" parent type)) and he had NO CLUE that my step mom was still doing this, and made my brother do it himself. Kid used a WHOLE roll of paper, and clogged the toilet and flooded the family room, bathroom and laundry room.
I HIGHLY doubt that it's normal. IMO, they should be taught sooner then later. It doesn't matter if they can't do it right at first, just so that they learn that they have to do it.

Bless your little brother, if your step mom showed him how to do it a few times he would probably be ok. I think most kids overuse toilet roll, Mikey used to use half the roll at first but it always went down the loo fine, he was scared of getting poo on his hands.
