Exclamation Woman sues a dead girl

I was watching some old episodes of Judge Judy on youtube, and came across this one in particular that just kinda bugged me. Well, apparently it bugged alot of other people too, because the comments put to it are pretty nasty and hateful. So, having said that, PLEASE do NOT scroll down and read the comments if children or teens are there and able to read them as well. I got permission to post this, only because we think it could lead to some really good discussions and reminders on teenage behavior and safety.

The plaintiff in the case is the one the nasty comments are directed towards, and for good reason! I cannot believe the audacity of this woman. I think Judge Judy's decision was fair. But its a tragic story about something that didn't have to happen, had the teenagers been properly supervised.

I'm thinking back, and I don't remember any of the parents in my neighborhood leaving keys in their car, but that still didn't keep the kids from getting to them. I think when Alyssa is old enough, I am wearing the car keys around my neck at all times!

Anyways, here's the link:

Default Judge Judy

How sad to see that mother's tears streaming down her face! And to think that b.... plaintiff saw absolutely wrong with her suit. The woman truly does not have a heart.

OMG....that woman was a totally heartless person. How ignorant of her to try and sue that other family.

She was completely oblivious to the fact that the other lady's daughter died. I'm sure had the situation been reversed, she would have sued the lady for letting the kid drive in the first place. sheesh

Take a look at her son's face. He clearly feels very confused about this. And if mom is not taking on guilt, who do you think is?

He probably blames himself for letting the girl take the car, but really, his mom did not teach him right from wrong. He's 14 and he does not know right from wrong, because "Mom said it was ok". That's why when we parent teens, we have to be totally unreasonable, and check up on them. Do what you want with my car when you are 14 as long as you stay on my property is a recipe for death. My ex grew up in a rural area where young teens sometimes operated tractors on family farms without a drivers license - BUT WITH ADULT SUPERVISION!!!!

Can you say moral ambiguity? Without reasonable adult guidance, how do you think that boy will reconcile this in his heart?

The limits that should have been in place besides driving the car where that they should have told her where they were going. Also if I have a son who is sitting in a car on a big piece of property with a girl "listening to music" you better believe that I would be checking up on them. "Listening to music" means just that. No weed, no booze, no fooling around. Nothing wrong with taking a look, saying "you guys ok?" For crying out loud, you don't just go to sleep.

How many of us parents of teens don't sleep until we know our kids are home, are safe - until we have track of them? Now see kids, this is why we are so unreasonable. We want you to stay alive.

I can't watch the video, but I can guess at the content and I have to agree with everything you stated here.

The poor lady whose daughter died... I could tell "something" was wrong (I watched the video without reading any comments). And then to learn why she was crying. {{hugz}} to her.
And the poor kid. He's gonna be messed up!
