Default woohoo! Big confrontation!!

I haven't had what I consider to be a big confrontation yet... until tonight! I'm typing one-handed (sleeping/nursing baby in the other), so I'll just give you some highlights:

-register wouldn't take expired crt coupons (although the DM told me before that they accept them - "they never expire" were his words.
-I ask cashier to call over manager (turns out to be assistant manager).
-manager says "if the register will take it, we'll take it. If not, we won't." He'd learned this at a recent district meeting. He made sure to repeat it several times throughout the conversation (I am a little hard of hearing, after all )
-him: "every single one of *your* transactions gets flagged, and the loss prevention people review it." I remind him they haven't found anything wrong with any of them...
-him: "if I push these coupons through, I'd get in trouble" me: "If you don't accept them and I call corp, won't you still get in trouble?"
-him: "I've seen 'the website'..." referring to a couponing forum. I asked him which one (wonder if he knew there were TONS!) and he didn't know. If it is this one, HI JOHN!!
-we called corp, I talked to them, he talked to them... he walked away so I couldn't hear for part of it, then twisted some of the CSR's words to suit himself (she had said to me & later to him that if we couldn't get things through, I could call to get the crt reset. After he got off, he told me "She said that next time, you NEED to get them reset 2 days before you use them." uh huh, sure...)
-end result: he tried to force through the coupons and really couldn't. I said I'd go ahead & pay, but would talk to the DM. If I was right, I'd just bring the coupons & receipt back in to get the $18 they owe me.

I still got $150 (or somethin') worth of stuff for $9.40 oop (and will of course be earning more EB in two days). I had one more EB that I should've fit in there to pay, but oh well. I think I'll be getting the cash back next week anyway.

WOW. I'm impressed that you shopped, were confronted by store management (what ever happened to the 'the customer is always right'?), called Corporate, and walked away with $150 worth of product - all with a BABY IN YOUR ARMS!!
Bummer that you had this experience, though. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Actually, I didn't have the baby with me this time. I usually do, but today, DH kept the kids while I went shopping. It wasn't supposed to take 45 minutes to check out. BUT, she did great and they were dancing around the living room when I got home.

oops, i read that wrong, you were typing with the baby in your arms. still, the experience was horrible. i'm sure you were frustrated.
I feel your frustration. I'm frustrated, too. I love my cvs deals, but i am spending a considerable amount of my precious time dealing with non-printing coupon issues, keeping spreadsheets to keep track of the ECBs I never see, and talking on the phone with EC reps. I may have to take some time off from CVS deals, because while it's true, I'm saving some money, I'm also wasting valuable time.

Do you think that a manager CAN FLAG every transaction of ours? Why would they do this to you? I never do anything unscrupulous, but one store is treating me like they think I am doing something dishonest. I AM very careful to follow all coupon/ecb rules, etc. Didn't this 'FREAK" you out?? To me that is almost like being accused of possible theft.

They are trying to bully you. Calling corporate is really all you can do.

countrymom: I don't think he meant that he (or anyone) flags my transactions BECAUSE it's me. I think he just meant that when someone comes in buying a ton of stuff and ends up paying only cents (which is what most of my transactions are), that it gets automatically flagged for review. They probably look at it to be sure that it's not a cashier doing some fraudulent stuff for a friend or something, but I don't have anything to hide. No biggie. I just thought it was funny that he mentioned it. Like tsl said, he was just trying to bully me, make me scared.

I wonder... he told me that he googled something to find the coupon website. I wonder what he googled? It would be interesting to see his perspective on what exactly it is we do...

Nikki, Which store was this? I am in the same area, so would like to avoid if possible.

Thanks, Inga

I searched on yahoo and that is how I found this forum. I cannot remember what I put in the search field. I hate being made to feel that we are doing something 'fishy' just because we are knowledgeable and take advantage of their sales and coupons. On the other hand, I do have one store in this area that is very friendly and helpful and never bats an eye on my good deals. That is the store I wrote to CVS about to compliment the management and clerks. They THANKED me when I came in the next time.

I don't think there's anything fishy about it. Their own sales ads say free on the deals, and they even put a little bubble on their best deals that say "look for coupons in sunday's paper" which helps us get the best deals. If the stores were more coupon friendly, and knowledgeable about their own promotions, we wouldn't have the problems we have. And as for using the ExtraCare Bucks, these are things we earned, by using their promotions. I'm quite confused about how anything we do can be construed as fraudulent. I rest easy knowing that I do the deals exactly as they are promoted.
